Brooklyn Museum Presents Adult Public Programs in January

AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) will present a workshop of the new one-act opera Our Basic Nature, based on the extraordinary true story of a psychotherapist who for 12 years raised a chimpanzee named Lucy as his own daughter.

HERE proudly announces As the Eyes of the Seahorse, a presentation of HERE's hemispHEREs program, set to play December 9-11 in the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre. A collaboration by the Nichole Canuso Dance Company and Philadelphia-based band The Mural and the Mint, the show is a rock concert fused with immersive choreography. Performances are Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 PM, and Friday, December 10 & Saturday, December 11 at 7:00 & 11:00 PM.

As part of the 2011 Under The Radar Festival, HERE proudly presents Phobophilia, a provocative multimedia exploration of the interconnectedness between fear and desire. Unnerving and intimate, this production from Montreal's 2boys.tv, created and performed by Stephen Lawson and Aaron Pollard, plays Wednesday, January 5 - Monday, January 10 at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue).

VITAL VOX: A VOCAL FESTIVAL explores the myriad power of the human voice in its solo and ensemble forms across a multitude of genres. This three day festival is in its 2nd annual appearance and will occur on November 11, 12, and 13, 2010 at 8:30pm at the ISSUE Project Room at the Old American Can Factory, 232 3rd Street, in Brooklyn, NY. As part of its 2010-11 mainstage season, HERE proudly presents Soul Leaves Her Body, by filmmaker and video artist Peter Flaherty and dance theater artist Jennie MaryTai Liu.

The evening will feature OPERA ELVIS: A LAMENT FOR THE KING a classical take on the works of Elvis Presley; scenes from HENRY'S WIFE by composer Randall Eng and ROSENKRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, based on the play by Tom Stoppard and adapted as an opera by composer/librettist Herschel Garfein; and 'A Poem Written For the Concrete Beneath the Bridge' by Caleb Burhans. The show will be held on Monday, October 18 at 8pm at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood. Tickets are $20 ($15 for students/seniors) in advance at www.galapagosartspace.com and $25 at the door.
