Kicking off the summer in Phoenix is the high-power, all-female, all-fabulous musical revue, Beehive: the 60's Musical! The production pays tribute to the women who dominated the music industry in that era, from Lesley Gore, Tina Turner and Connie Francis to Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. 

Pittsburgh Symphony to Feature Neil Sedaka in PNC Pops Concert, 5/12

Since first achieving fame as a teen pop sensation in the 1950s, Neil Sedaka has kept America singing for six decades. He brings the timeless hits of his storied career to Heinz Hall to perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra during the PNC Pops weekend May 12-14.

This is what it must have been like in the golden years of Las Vegas.  The darkened room, an off-stage announcement 'Ladies and Gentleman, The Sands Hotel is proud to present'... then starts the glorious harmonic blaring arrangements of a Count Basie sounding orchestra blasting the intro..next…..casually strolling out, one of the coolest looking singers ever, drink in hand, turns to his musical director and asks 'How long have I been on'?  Deana Martin brought you back to those years when her dad and 'Uncle Frank' had the world on a string at Dick Robinson's Legend Radio's Gala Concert in Palm Beach Florida.  It was a a spectacular concert show of 'Deana Sings Dino' celebrating her father's 100th birthday. The proud daughter brought along her 18-piece orchestra to let the fans hear what it sounded like back in the day.  It's in the genes, and Deana Martin with an effervescent personality and brilliant command of a stage, vocally reminds you of all the music that still thrills millions. You even got to see some touching family home movies and legendary performance clips of Dean & Jerry.  Legend Radio's event also celebrated it's 3rd birthday event and Dick Robinson is not just preserving the Great American Songbook, he's creating a whole new chapter.

Cabaret Life Productions Owner Stephen Hanks has announced that NEW YORK CABARET'S GREATEST HITS, the BroadwayWorld.com Award Nominated monthly series at New York's Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street) he launched (with Associate Producer Fr. Jeffrey Hamblin, MD) in August, 2105, will present productions of eight Award-winning or critically acclaimed shows of the past during 2017. The series' new season will open on Monday, February 13 at 7 pm with Jenna Esposito's MAC Award-Nominated 2009 Connie Francis Tribute Show, Jenna Esposito Sings Connie Francis , followed by Adam Shapiro's 2013 MAC Award-Winning Guide to the Perfect Breakup on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 pm.

BWW Review: RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET at Rubicon Theatre Company

Before Mamma Mia!, before The Marvelous Wonderettes, and before Jersey Boys, there was Return to the Forbidden Planet, an Off-Broadway space farce that was one of the first musicals to incorporate pop hits into its score. A spoof of the 1956 cult sci-fi film, Forbidden Planet, Bob Carlton's musical utilizes the language and general storyline of William Shakespeare's The Tempest in relating the adventures of an interstellar space ship, which is drawn to a mysterious planet by a mad scientist and his beauteous daughter. The show is being staged at the Rubicon Theatre Company in Ventura in a colorful, lively production directed and choreographed by Kirby Ward.

For its third monthly production, Dorothy's Piano Bar and Cabaret presents two fabulous performers who have known each other well over 20 years, having worked together at Village Theatre in Issaquah and in various clubs in the Pacific Northwest.

Paul Anka to Play Ridgefield Playhouse, 5/13

The Ridgefield Playhouse and Ethan Allen Hotel present the legendary singer and songwriter Paul Anka with a night of unforgettable, chart topping hits, including "My Way," "Put Your Head on My Shoulder," "Lonely Boy," "She's a Lady," and "(You're) Having My Baby," and many more!  Paul Anka will sing his way through the decades on Friday, May 13 at 8 p.m. as part of the Pepsi Rock Series powered by Xfinity and Ridgefield Magazine Broadway and Cabaret Series. 

Critic's Choice: The Shows To See This Weekend

Shows are opening (Carolyn German unveils her latest, Go From Here, and Nashville Ballet revives Carmina Burana, both this weekend), shows are closing (your last chance to catch The Taffetas at Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre before they go the way of The Plaids is this weekend) and The Miss Firecracker Contest is back onstage at Donelson's Larry Keeton Theatre for the second of three weekends. Obviously, the 2016 theater season continues to reveal itself at a breakneck pace, giving audiences a veritable buffet of offerings from which to choose.
