Imagination Stage's Musical Theatre Conservatory Presents Urinetown

Imagination Stage's Musical Theatre Conservatory will perform Urinetown, an acclaimed musical satire, May 15-17, 2015 in the Christopher and Dana Reeve Theatre. Urinetown's book and lyrics are written by Greg Kotis, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann.

The awards celebration was a night of excitement and surprise as 57 Washington theatre artists, theatres, and ensembles received honors in 47 categories for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2014 theatre season. Imagination Stage's Acting Conservatory to Present SHE KILLS MONSTERS

Imagination Stage's Acting Conservatory will perform She Kills Monsters, a comedic play set in a fantasy world, April 24-26, 2015 in the Christopher and Dana Reeve Theatre. She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen intertwines reality with fantasy to create an introspective look at the warrior within all of us.

The Welders to Present HAPPINESS (AND OTHER REASONS TO DIE)

The Welders-Washington's only playwrights' collective devoted exclusively to developing and producing new work-have launched their third production. happiness (and other reasons to die), a new play by Bob Bartlett, opens May 30, 2015 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Gregg Henry will direct.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA by Theater Alliance is Intriguing and Challenging

These individuals are so outlandish, they make the Mad Hatter look like Miss Manners and the March Hare look like the Easter bunny. There's the watch-repair specialist who drinks urine; the bumbling, ritual-addicted bureaucrat known as the Oathtaker; and the talking goat who hungers for blame (he's a scapegoat, you see) and who turns out to have a shocking propensity for violence.

force/collision Presents JARMAN (ALL THIS MADDENING BEAUTY), Now thru 4/27

force/collision announces its current performance project, Jarman (all this maddening beauty) will be livestreamed on HowlRound TV on April 20th at 4:00pm. Inspired by queer avant-garde artist, activist and filmmaker, Jarman (all this maddening beauty) invades the mind and artistic aesthetic of Derek Jarman (The Last of England, Sebastiane, The Tempest) to create a poetic and visually dynamic mash-up of video and live performance. This project will premiere in 2014 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Jarman's death.

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma to Present THE ROCKY HOROR SHOW, 10/16-11/2

Back by popular demand, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will present its hit, Richard O'Brien's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, October 16 through November 2 at the Plaza Theatre. The production comes on the heels of Lyric's wildly successful run of summer shows. With direction by Matthew Alvin Brown and choreography by Chris Castleberry, the show will be the interactive, live, musical version of the cult classic.

Signature in the Schools Presents REVOLUTION World Premiere, Beginning Today

Signature in the Schools, the education program at Signature Theatre, presents the world-premiere production of Revolution, written by acclaimed writer/director Joe Calarco and directed by Education Director David Zobell. Students from Arlington high schools join Signature actor Evan Casey (Really Really, The Boy Detective Fails) and a professional design team for this thought-provoking new drama, which explores far-reaching questions of identity and community.

Full casting and creative team is set for force/collision's world premiere of Shape by Erik Ehn. A play regarding Black vaudeville and the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921, Shape will play tonight, September 20- October 6 at Atlas Performing Arts Center's Sprenger Theatre before moving to La MaMa ETC in November where it will play in repertory with 16 other plays by Ehn called Soulographie: Our Genocides. Creative team includes playwright Erik Ehn (The Saint Plays, Maria Kizito), director John Moletress (2011 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre as co-founder of Factory 449; 2012 Mayor's Arts Award finalist), set designer Collin Ranney (2012 Helen Hayes Award nominee), lighting designer Ariel J. Benjamin, Movement/Choreographer Ilana Faye Silverstein and sound designer Derek Knoderer. The cast includes force/collision ensemble members Dane Figueroa Edidi, Frank Britton, Karin Rosnizeck, Joshua Sticklin and guest actors Dexter Hamlett, Manu H. Kumasi, S. Lewis Feemster, Julia Smith, Alex Witherow and Luci Murphy.

Playwright Erik Ehn, Author Daphne A. Brooks and Journalist Randy Gener To Speak On Panel In Washington, D.C., 9/22

On September 22, following force/collision's 8:00pm performance of the world premiere of Shape by Erik Ehn, there will be a talkback featuring the playwright (Maria Kizito, The Saint Plays), Daphne Brooks ("Bodies in Dissent: Spectacular Performances of Race and Freedom"), Randy Gener (American Theatre Magazine, Critical Stages) and John Moletress (Founding Director, force/collision). The discussion will begin approximately at 9:10pm in the Sprenger Theatre at Atlas Performing Arts Center located at 1333 H Street NE in Washington, D.C. The audience will have a chance to ask questions of the panelists regarding the production of Shape and their work.
