Diane Paulus' landmark inaugural season as Artistic Director of American Repertory Theater (the A.R.T.) continues as GATZ begins performances on Thursday, January 7, 2010.
GATZ, the upcoming staged reading of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, has been given the go-ahead by Fitzgerald's executors. The estate had previously blocked performances of GATZ, as the rights were held by the producers of the novel. Several companies have expressed interest in producing GATZ, including St. Ann's Warehouse, the Public Theatre, and the New York Theatre Workshop.
Casting has been announced for the upcoming production of GATZ, presented by Elevator Repair Service and directed by John Collins at the American Repertory Theater. The staged reading of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel will include Jim Fletcher as Gatsby, Scott Shepherd as Nick, Victoria Vazquez as Daisy, and Gary Wilmes as Tom. The production will play the A.R.T. from January 7th to February 7th, 2010.

Julia Jarcho's new play, AMERICAN TREASURE, will receive its premiere performance by the theatre group 13P beginning on November 21st and running through December 12th at The Paradise Factory. Jarcho will direct the play's initial run and the cast will feature Aaron Landsman and Jenny Seastone Stern.

In a most unusual move, acclaimed theater auteur David Levine has announced the addition of two more performances of his latest reality-bending project, VENICE SAVED: A SEMINAR at P.S. 122. Orginally scheduled to begin March 21, two additional performances have been added on March 19 & 20. In this inquiry into the nature of democracy and the value of 'political theater,' Levine has eliminated the 'audience' and gathered everyone around a seminar table peppered with cast members who may, or may not, be acting. The topic of this seminar is Simone Weil's unfinished 1943 play Venise Sauv?e, an allegory of democracy and its overthrow, presented on the 100th anniversary of Weil's birth.

The Civilians (Steven Cosson, Artistic Director) the award-winning New York-based theater company, have announced that they will commission a full-length play from their newest project, Brooklyn at Eye Level, following a successful series of initial performances. The show played to capacity crowds December 4 - 7 at The Brooklyn Lyceum and was embraced by the entire community as an important contribution to the often contentious debate surrounding the Atlantic Yards development.
The Civilians (Steven Cosson, Artistic Director), the award-winning New York-based theater company, will premiere a work-in-progress performance of their newest project, Brooklyn at Eye Level December 4-7, 2008 at The Brooklyn Lyceum (227 4th Avenue). Performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday begin at 8:00 p.m with 3:00 p.m. matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, a number of special guests will act as host for each performance, introducing the show and participating in post-performance discussions with the artists. Special guests include Theo Moore of FUREE on Thursday, Michele De la Uz of the Fifth Avenue Committee on Friday, Deb Howard of the Pratt Area Community Council on Saturday evening and Gilly Youner of the Park Slope Civic Council on Sunday afternoon.
