E.J. Strickland to Play Bohemian Caverns, 6/21

Drummer, composer, and bandleader E.J. Strickland is most noted for his work with The Ravi Coltrane Quartet, The Marcus Strickland Quartet & Trio, & The Russell Malone Quartet. He currently leads his own bands The E.J. Strickland Quintet & The E.J. Strickland Project. His playing has been described as emitting "fields of cumulative energy, clouds of feather-touch and heavy-handed syncopations, latent with power like an oncoming storm" (Thomas Conrad, Downbeat Magazine).

Seattle International Dance Festival's Art on the Fly Outdoor Kickoff Event Set for Today

Art on the Fly kicks off ten days of international dance. Today, June 15th, the streets of South Lake Union become an arts playground featuring the Massive Monkees, a Brazilian parade, an Egyptian wedding procession (including a kazoo sing-along), a live interactive marionette exhibit (where the audience pulls the strings), a Bollywood Flash mob, and FREE open dance classes from Seattle's best studios. South Lake Union will be wall-to-wall events and it's open to all ages.

The 88 Release New Album FORTUNE TELLER

EVERYTHING IS TEMP to Open at TEMP Art Space, June 22

TEMP Art Space has announced Everything Is TEMP, an exhibition curated by Alex Ahn and Ari Lipkis featuring work by nine emerging artists who explore the fleeting nature of digital art. The idea ultimately reflects the inherent ephemerality of technology and life. Artists include Tyler Healy, Jack Kalish, Rune Madsen, Marisa Prefer, Byron Peter, Matthew Ostrowski, Ryan Raffa, Borna Sammak, and Timo Toots.

Alexander Andreou Stars in SOCRATES AND HIS CLOUDS at Jermyn Street, Beg. Tonight

Socrates and His Clouds begins tonight, June 4, at Jermyn Street Theatre. With Alexander Andreou (National Theatre, Manchester Royal Exchange) as Socrates, Paul Hutton as Strepsiades (Mack & Mabel Southwark Playhouse), and Jack Montgomery (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins), as Phidippides, this modern day re-interpretation of a classic Greek comedy will also feature Riana Athanasiou, Lucyelle Cliffe and Rahil Liapopoulou as The Chorus.

Elaine Romero's SECRET THINGS to Make World Premiere in Albuquerque, 7/25

The National Hispanic Cultural Center and Camino Real Productions, LLC have announced the world premiere of Secret Things, by award-winning playwright Elaine Romero. The play will open on Thursday, July 25 for a three-week run at the Wells Fargo Auditorium at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, followed by two additional weekends of performances at Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe.

The Tank to Present La Piara's GUERRA: A CLOWN PLAY, 7/11-20

Guerra: a clown play is a satirical physical comedy created by Mexico City-based company La Piara in collaboration with writers/directors Seth Bockley (February House at The Public Theatre) and Devon de Mayo (The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler with Dog & Pony Theatre Company). Performed in three languages, Guerracombines slapstick, clown, dance, bouffant and farce to tell the story of a military outpost desperate for recruits, and the cannon fodder that a hapless General sends to war. This contemporary story of war's inhumanity is given a darkly humorous edge through the medium of clown.

The Antaeus production highlights the play's universal and timeless themes by staging the play as presentation theater with the actors speaking directly to the audience, rarely to the person onstage to whom they are speaking. It is performed in conservative modern dress on a minimalistic set, making the words ring truer than in any other production of the show I have ever seen.
