The Shakespeare Society in Association with Red Bull Theater Presents MARLOWE VS. SHAKESPEARE: RIVALRY, IMITATION, AND INFLUENCE, 11/9

The Shakespeare Society (Michael Sexton, Artistic Director) will present Marlowe vs. Shakespeare: Rivalry, Imitation, and Influence, featuring John Douglas Thompson who plays the title role in the acclaimed Irish Rep revival of The Emperor Jones in a performance that was called "wondrous" by Ben Brantley in The New York Times; Matthew Rauch who currently stars in Still Life at MCC; and Columbia professor James Shapiro, author of the acclaimed book 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, on Monday, November 9 at 7:00pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, East 68 Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues.

The Wilma Theater opens its 2009-2010 Season with Coming Home, the latest work by internationally acclaimed playwright Athol Fugard ? the second most frequently produced playwright at the Wilma, following Tom Stoppard. The Wilma?s production of Coming Home, directed by the Wilma?s co-Artistic Director Blanka Zizka, is only the play?s third production, after its premiere at New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre earlier this year.

NATHAN THE WISE Receives American Premiere, Starring Strathairn, At People's Light 9/16-10/11

People's Light & Theatre Company kicks off their 35th Anniversary Season with the American Premiere of NATHAN THE WISE translated by Edward Kemp from the play by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing. Theater heavyweights Leslie Uggams, Clifton Davis, Alan Campbell, Leslie Becker, Sherry Boone, and Rodney Hicks will premiere tomorrow in The Rebel Theater Company's staged reading series of LITTLE ROCK written and directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. LITTLE ROCK presents untold stories of nine young teenagers otherwise known as the 'Little Rock Nine' and their struggles, strengths, hardships, and triumphs over the tragic events of the 1957 Little Rock crisis. The readings will be September 29th at 7pm, and September 30th at 12noon and 7pm at Union Square Theater.

Barron, Alladin, Parker and More Join LCT3's WHAT ONCE WE FELT

LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater's initiative devoted to producing work of new playwrights, directors and designers, has announced that Opal Alladin, Mia Barron, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Lynn Hawley, Ronete Levenson and Ellen Parker will be featured in its world premiere production of WHAT ONCE WE FELT, a new play by Ann Marie Healy, directed by Ken Rus Schmoll, the first of LCT3's three productions during the 2009-2010 season.

Cavanagh Joins Stritch In Industry Reading Of New Play WHITE'S LIES 9/24
