Director Gaye Taylor Upchurch makes her Arena Stage debut working with Kathleen Turner (MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN, MOLLY IVINS) in the play adaptation of Joan Didion's memoir THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING. Clare Lizzimore's challenging play benefits from the immersive and intimate staging that Director Gaye Taylor Upchurch has conjured up for this inaugural Studio X production, as well as some excellent acting.

Studio Theatre will inaugurate its Studio X series with Animal, a new play by British playwright Clare Lizzimore, commissioned for Studio's stage. "Clare is a director turned playwright whom I commissioned after reading her first play," says Artistic Director David Muse. "She has a tremendous theatrical imagination paired with an understanding of the subtle skill of actors to animate characters. Animal is an intimate and character-driven domestic drama, full of twists and humor. I've known GT Upchurch for years, and she has the craft and imagination to realize Clare's work in all its complexity and beauty."

Tony Award-winning playwright Lisa Kron will be a featured guest and participant at the launch party of the Women's Voices Theater Festival on September 8 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The invitation-only event kicks off the beginning of the Festival, an unprecedented collaboration among professional theater companies that includes the presentation of more than 50 world-premiere productions of work by female playwrights, taking place this September and October in the nation's capital region. The launch party features a creative conversation between Kron and National Public Radio's Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg focused on gender parity in the arts in the Museum's Performance Hall, followed by a celebratory party and toast to officially declare the start of the Festival.

The gloves are off in Mike Bartlett's biting satire about office politics and under versus top dog.

Two internationally acclaimed productions receive their London premieres at the Young Vic in 2015. Bull, Mike Bartlett's dark workplace comedy will run 8 January - 7 February 2015. Lippy, an exploration of a real-life Irish tragedy and a major hit at the Dublin and Edinburgh Festivals, will run 19 February - 21 March 2015.
