Pulitzer Finalist, TONY Award nominee and MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship recipient Sarah Ruhl (P#13) is creating a new, chamber version of her Melancholy Play (2001) with the composer Todd Almond and Davis McCallum, who directed a version of the work in 2002.
The Old Globe presents the West Coast Premiere of Divine Rivalry. Based on a real-life event, the drama about two of history's most famous artists-and one of history's most infamous statesmen-is written by Michael Kramer with D. S. Moynihan. Directed by Michael Wilson, Divine Rivalry runs now through August 5 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. But when those bracing features controlled the soft contours of ladies in polite company, at tea and virtually everywhere else, they became, well, personal torture chambers. You can feel their inner pain, and outer satisfaction, when you view an array of historic fashions, worn and collected by local women, in a costume exhibit, titled "Women of New England: Dress from the Industrial Age, 1850-1900," from June 4 through August 17 in the Jorgensen Gallery.
