ArtsWest Announces DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, MEASURE FOR MEASURE & More In Upcoming Season

ArtsWest starts the 2009-10 season with DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE, a wildly imaginative new work from Sarah Ruhl, the playwright behind The Clean House and Eurydice. When Jean answers the cell phone of the corpse at the next table, she unwittingly embarks on a quirky odyssey that takes her from grief to the black market to the afterlife. With unfailing empathy, she sets the dead man's bizarre life to rights and on the way resurrects her own. ArtsWest favorite Carol Roscoe returns to direct this Seattle Premiere.

Photo Preview: ArtsWest Presents SWEENEY TODD

ArtsWest presents Stephen Sondheim's Tony-winning musical thriller SWEENEY TODD the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, July 15-25. Performed by participants in ArtsWest's award-winning Musical Theater Apprenticeship Program, SWEENEY TODD is the macabre tale of a London barber, unjustly deported, who returns seeking revenge.

Brown and King's GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL Comes To Artswest 4/15 - 5/17

ArtsWest is set to present Gutenberg! The Musical April 15 - May 17. Gutenberg! The Musical is a loving spoof in which two aspiring playwrights perform a backers? audition for their new project: A big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg (not Steve Guttenberg from the cinema classic Short Circuit). With an unending supply of enthusiasm, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their ?historical? epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract ? fulfilling their sky-high, if simple-minded, dreams.
