Fire Island Dance Festival 17 Raises Record-Breaking $340,445 for DRA

The 17th annual edition of the spectacular Fire Island Dance Festival raised a record-breaking $340,445, surpassing the previous record by more than $23,000. Fire Island Dance Festival 17, the most anticipated cultural event of the season at Fire Island Pines, was presented July 15-17 and is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
New York City Ballet's Chase Finlay and Anthony Huxley Promoted to Soloists

New York City Ballet announced today that Chase Finlay and Anthony Huxley have been promoted to Soloist. Peter Martins, NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief, made the promotions at the end of the Company's annual summer residency at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga, NY.

The National Ballet of Canada reported earlier this week that their newest production, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is now sold out for the remainder of its run, making it the most successful production in the history of the company. There is still one more chance to see excerpts from this spectacular new ballet at MAD HOT WONDERLAND, the annual gala fundraiser on June 21st. BWW sat down and spoke with Sonia Rodriquez, a principal dancer currently alternating the role of Alice, about what this journey has been like for her.

On Tuesday, May 31 after the curtain came down at New York City Ballet's evening performance, a crew of dancers took to the streets, dancing down city sidewalks and distributing hundreds of red pointe shoes across the city in a grass roots effort to rally and raise awareness for this year's Dancers' Choice performance on Sunday, June 12, a one-time-only program produced entirely by NYCB's dancers with all tickets specially priced at $25 and $50.
This year's Dancers' Choice program, overseen by NYCB dancers Adrian Danchig-Waring and Amanda Hankes, will feature George Balanchine's iconic works Apollo and Rubies, as well as a series of selections from George Balanchine's Agon, Angelin Preljocaj's La Stravaganza, and the only performance this season of Christopher Wheeldon's Liturgy. A highlight of the evening will be breakout performances across the board with dancers making exciting debuts in nearly every role.
New York City Ballet Announces Dancers' Choice

New York City Ballet will present its third Dancers' Choice program on Sunday, June 12 at 7:30 PM. A benefit for NYCB's Dancers' Emergency Fund, the event was conceived by NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins in 2008 to give the Company's dancers an opportunity to plan a NYCB performance.

Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit and The Philadelphia Orchestra join together with arts and cultural organizations throughout the city for the inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). The festival will end on May 1, 2011. Audiences will revel in an array of one-time, only-in-Philadelphia productions by many of the region's top talents. PIFA will feature music, dance, fashion, fine arts, poetry, cuisine, and more-all generously flavored with the essence of Paris, circa 1910-20.
