Based on the Monty Python film Monty Python and the Holy Grail is SPAMALOT, a hilarious musical that parodies the legend of King Arthur. While the two have their differences, both have one thing in common - outrageous loud-out-loud antics. Now, the Lower Ossington Theatre is staging it's own production of the hilarious, larger than life musical.
Sterling's Upstairs - housed at popular LA hot spot The Federal in North Hollywood's NoHo Arts District - has not only been described by the Los Angeles Times as "LA's cabaret destination;" but was just cited by LA Weekly as one of Los Angeles's top five supper clubs, With an arsenal of similar accolades from LA based media, Sterling's Upstairs celebrates its eight-year anniversary this month with Broadway performers Maura Hanlon Smith (June 9), Sandy Bainum (June 22) and Bernard Dotson (June 29-June 30). Kritzerland Records' Nobody Does it Better... The songs of Dorothy Fields kicked off the month-long celebration on June 1st featuring Tara Browne, Cynthia Ferrer, Zachary Ford, Kim Huber, Jenna Lea Rosen, Sami Staitman, Sarah Staitman, Robert Yacko and Special Guest... Broadway's Kerry O'Malley.
Joining Ellison for this engagement will be Ashley Blanchet (who made her original Broadway debut in Memphis and is currently on Broadway again in Annie), David Larson (most recently on Broadway in Hands on a Hard Body and Billy Elliott), Christopher Seiber (a Tony Award nominee and most recently on Broadway in Shrek, Spamalot and La Cage aux Folles), and Beth Leavel (Tony Award winner whose Broadway credits include The Drowsy Chaperone, 42nd Street and Crazy for You).

The New York Times is reporting that Shrek vet Christopher Sieber will star as sex columnist Dan Savage in The New Group's production of The Kid, a new musical based on Dan Savage's book The Kid: What Happened After My Boyfriend and I Decided to Go Get Pregnant. The production will run as the the third show of The New Group's 2009 - 2010 season, however, no exact production dates have been announced. Additional cast and creative team announcements are also forthcoming.
The 21st Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION announced an all time record total of $4,630,695 had been raised by the 60 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and National Tour companies to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
