The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon, continues its year-long 50th anniversary season celebration with back-to-back performances of Orff's Carmina Burana, one of the most popular choral works of the 20th century, featuring Chorale member Timothy Gonzales, tenor, and noted guest artists Stacey Tappan, a "mellifluous" soprano (Wall St. Journal), Jose Adan Perez, a "glorious baritone" (Bach Track), and the ever-polished Los Angeles Children's Chorus on Saturday, November 2, 2013, 2 pm, and Sunday, November 3, 2013, 7 pm, at Disney Hall. Verdi's lush Te Deum, for double chorus and orchestra with roots in polyphony and Gregorian chant, opens the program.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the New York Premiere of The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, featuring Principal Oboe Liang Wang, and Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra and Don Juan, both featuring Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow in concertmaster solos. The concerts will take place Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 16 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m.

The six string quartets of Béla Bartók, composed between 1908 and 1939, are a towering oeuvre of 20th-century chamber music. In this series, the young California-based Calder Quartet, called “superb” by The New York Times and “formidable” by The New Yorker, perform the quartets in three concerts along with music focusing on Bartók's deep debt to the human voice, with the help of two special guest artists.

Carol Wincenc's 25th Anniversary Recital at The Juilliard School, taking place tonight, September 30, 2013, at 8:00 PM at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, features Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola, and harp, L. 137; the world premiere of Yuko Uebayashi's Misericordia for flute and string quartet, a work written for Wincenc; the U.S. premiere of Schnittke's Moz-Art a la Mozart for eight flutes and harp; the New York premiere of Henze's I Sentimenti di Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach for solo flute, solo harp, double string quartet, and bass; and an arrangement by Daniel Paget: One Hundred Roses: Seven Neapolitan Serenades and Dances for flute, strings, mandolin, guitar, and percussion.

Carol Wincenc, the Grammy-nominated artist who is one of the most acclaimed and respected flutists performing today, marks her 25th anniversary as a member of the faculty of The Juilliard School in the 2013-14 season. Producers Jeffrey Richards and John N. Hart Jr., in association with the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), have announced that the box office will open on Thursday, August 8th for the 17-week limited engagement of the critically-acclaimed revival of The Glass Menagerie at the Booth Theatre (222 W 45th Street) with performances beginning Thursday, September 5, 2013, and an opening night set for Thursday, September 26th. The production will star multiple Tony and Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones as Amanda Wingfield, film and stage star Zachary Quinto as Tom, two-time Tony-nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger as Laura, and Brian J. American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its mission to be a catalyst for new American orchestral music while providing invaluable opportunities for composers through four EarShot partnerships during the 2013-2014 season. Calls for submissions for EarShot Readings with three of the orchestras are now open - Berkeley Symphony (Readings on February 2-3 & May 4-5, 2014, submission deadline August 30), Detroit Symphony (Readings on March 9-10, 2014, submission deadline October 11), and the New York Philharmonic (Readings on June 3, concerts on June 5-7, 2014, submission deadline December 2) as part of the NY PHIL BIENNIAL. Also as part of the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, ACO continues its ownUnderwood New Music Readings for the 23rd year in New York at the DiMenna Center (June 6-7, 2014, submission deadline December 2). Composers have already been selected for the La Jolla Symphony Readings, which take place on September 19 and 20, 2013.

The July broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with a Summertime Classics program from July 2012 titled 'A New York Fourth,' conducted by Bramwell Tovey. The Hellcats and Jazz Knights from the West Point Band, conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Jim Keene, perform 'American Heritage' and 1940s Big Band Swing selections, including Oliver's 'Well, Git It,' Ward's 'America the Beautiful,' and Miller's 'In the Mood.' They also join the New York Philharmonic in Sousa's The Liberty Bell March and The Stars and Stripes Forever March, as well as Philip Egner's The Official West Point March. Soprano Tracy Dahl sings works by Bernstein and Gershwin on the first half of the broadcast.
