Actor and comedian Eddie Izzard plans to run for Mayor of London in 2019, according to a report in The Mirror. 'People say, 'Well, you're a bit woolly' and 'You're really not informed'; 'You're not this' and 'You're not that,' Izzard said, 'But I realise those attacks are going to happen and you have to push through to get to a better place.'
When I first heard Janene Lovullo at Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's in January of 2010, I was captivated by her beautifully fragile soprano voice and how well she was able to convey the delicacy of the lyrics of each song to a large audience. I also remember telling her how she needed to record, as, unlike many singers, hers is a voice that is ideally suited to record. Well, she released the lovely album This Moment in 2012...and now, just released as of February 2013, comes her second album Broadway, Intimate. As I listened, I can truthfully say that I haven't been this excited about a singer since Joan Ryan's 'Shall We Dance?' several years ago. Unusually different arrangements and an up close, personal interpretation that sends the already popular tune soaring to brand new heights....such are the accomplishments of Janene Lovullo.

Last night I spent what was my hands-down favorite evening in the theatre in the past several months thanks to the talents of David Zippel, Jason Graae, Christiane Noll, Lillias White, Karen Ziemba and the marvelous melodies of Marvin Hamlisch. Not to mention special guest star Lucie Arnaz. HOORAY for The McCallum Theatre and CEO Mitch Gershenfeld - generally a presenting house - for producing such a warm and wonderful evening in tribute to one of popular and theatre music's greatest, yet often overlooked, composers.
San Jose Rep will be postponing its scheduled production of Next Fall until October, 2013. San Jose Rep is thrilled to announce that they were able to secure actor Danny Scheie to play the lead role in the thoughtful, moving story written by Geoffrey Nauffts, but his availability for the project required San Jose Rep to push the production to a later date.

Given the incredible talent in this town and the large number of daring, courageous theater groups in the Austin area, here are my picks for 13 plays that I'd love to see produced in the 2013-2014 season.

The Country Playhouse is presenting Charles Marowitz's MURDERING MARLOWE in their Black Box Theatre. With a healthy dose of elevated Elizabethan language and speculative fiction, the play tells the story of jealousy run awry. William Shakespeare, a fledgling artist, takes advantage of the government's disgust at Christopher Marlowe's sexual tastes and written blasphemies, and seeks to overthrow the successful playwright. He longs to claim Marlowe's spot as his own and this eventually leads to the murder of Christopher Marlowe in a pub in Deptford, England.

It was a dark and stormy night when two weary travelers, Nicholas and Alice, stumbled upon the lavish estate of Sir John, a worldly man with a delight for ghost stories and folklore. To pass the time, John proposes a bet to Nicholas and Alice, promising them 50 pounds if he can scare them using nothing more than literature.

Hundreds of years ago, English playwright Christopher Marlowe wrote the world's first theatrical version of a little German legend about a man who sells his soul to the Devil. That man was Faust, and Marlowe's version, DOCTOR FAUSTUS, will be produced by Austin's own Last Act Theatre Company from October 11th through October 27th.
