Chicago Philharmonic Announces 2016-17 Season

The Chicago Philharmonic announces its 2016-17 season: Love. Throughout five concerts, the season explores orchestral favorites and lesser known offerings representing varying expressions of love. Guest performers include conductor Gerhardt Zimmermann, Visceral Dance Chicago, and a range of renowned vocalists and instrumental soloists. Scott Speck leads the orchestra in his fourth season as artistic director.

Odyssey Opera to Host 3rd Annual Festival, 6/3-12

Odyssey Opera presents WHEN IN ROME, its third annual opera festival comprising fully staged productions of Christoph Willibald Gluck's Ezio and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Lucio Silla from June 3-12 at the Boston University Theatre. Ezio and Lucio Silla are both composed in the grand tradition of opera seria, with plots revolving around the timeless themes of honor, betrayal, and passion revealed in soul-baring arias. Both operas take place in Ancient Rome and are based on historical generals or dictators. Led by conductor Gil Rose, the Odyssey Opera Orchestra is joined by some of the nation's most extraordinary opera singers, including mezzo- sopranos Brenda Patterson and Jennifer Rivera, and countertenors Michael Maniaci and David Trudgen.

Opera Grand Rapids is delighted to present the Midwest premiere of Christoph Willibald Gluck's 1774 Paris opera version of "Orpheus and Eurydice" (Orphee et Eurydice), an opera so influential in its style that it set the stage for several subsequent operas and influenced countless composers from Mozart and Beethoven to Wagner.

Dance Against Cancer raised more than $200,000 for the American Cancer Society on Monday, May 5, 2014. Proceeds from the evening will benefit research initiatives and patient and family service programs. More than 500 guests attended the fourth annual Dance Against Cancer. VIP guests enjoyed cocktails, preferred seating, and a gift bag in addition to the performance and post-event reception. The performance featured new work by Brian Reeder created for American Ballet Theatre's Isabella Boylston with New York City Ballet's Chase Finlay and Amar Ramasar, Paul Taylor Dance Company in its first appearance at the benefit, Charles 'Lil Buck' Riley performed with students from National Dance Institute, and included the NYC premiere of Justin Peck's Sea Change. Guest conductor Nicholas McGegan will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a program featuring the Atlanta Symphony premiere of Handel's Concerto Grosso in G Major as well as the subscription premiere of Gluck's "Dance of the Blessed Spirits" from Orfeo ed Euridice. Guest violinist Stefan Jackiw will make his Atlanta Symphony debut playing Bruch's Scottish Fantasy. Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4, "Italian," is also on the program.
