13th Annual New Voice Play Festival Opens at Old Opera House, 6/21

The New Voice Play Festival, opening on June 21, provides the opportunity for audiences to witness completely new and original plays from playwrights all across the nation and vote on which play is their favorite. The 13th Annual New Voice Play Festival seeks to showcase four new, rarely performed original one act plays. Plays are submitted year-round to the Old Opera House for consideration. All of the submitted plays are judged by a selection committee during the winter months. Out of the hundreds of shows submitted, four plays are chosen for performance.

George London Foundation for Singers Announces 2013-14 Season

Three international opera stars and three stars on the rise are the six artists who headline the 2013-14 season of events of the George London Foundation for Singers, which has been honoring, supporting, and presenting the finest young opera singers in the U.S. and Canada for more than four decades. Five of the artists are GeorgeLondon Award winners, and thus among the “scores of important singers [who] have been discovered by the [George London Foundation] competition over the years,” as Peter G. Davis wrote in The New York Times last year.

Lyric Opera of Chicago's Gianna Rolandi to Take Role of Vocal Consultant After 2012-13 Season

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, announced today that Gianna Rolandi will retire as director of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center on April 15, 2013, following the annual "Rising Stars in Concert" performance April 13. Rolandi has held that position since May 2006, and served as director of vocal studies for the Ryan Opera Center for the previous four years, following a distinguished international career as a coloratura soprano. Rolandi will continue her association with the Ryan Opera Center as vocal consultant, a new position.
