SINGIN' ALL NIGHT Workshop presents Staged Reading

After collaborating with David Rabe on their acclaimed revival of In the Boom Boom Room last month, Chain Theatre is turning its focus on developing a new play. Singin' All Night tells the story of an autistic African American teenager who has been accused of a horrific crime. Two young attorneys are broke, desperate and take his impossible case. But everything changes when they realize he can communicate through music. Join us for the WORLD PREMIERE reading/ workshop presentation of Singin' All Night written by Artistic Director Kirk Gostkowski. Chain Theatre will be performing a lightly staged reading of the new play as well as celebrating the 2017 Chain Theatre season. Talkback with creators and performers to follow presentation.

Tony Award winner Debra Monk attended the current rare revival of David Rabe's IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM Thursday night Off-Broadway. She was accompanied by playwright/actor Michael Rabe (son of Mr. Rabe and Jill Clayburgh), with whom she starred in David Rabe's VISITING EDNA at Steppenwolf last fall.

IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM's Kirk Gostkowski to Appear on 'State of the Arts' Today

A rare revival of David Rabe's IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM opened last night at American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54 Street (just west of Eighth Ave.) One of the production's stars, Kirk Gostkowski, is this week's special guest on the popular WPKN Radio (89.5 FM) program 'State of the Arts,' airing today (Friday) at noon.

Currently in previews, David Rabe's IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM is set to open Off-Broadway tomorrow evening (Thursday) at American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54 Street (just west of Eighth Ave.) Playwright David Rabe attended rehearsals over the past few weeks, making tweaks to his script in the process for this 2017 incarnation of the rarely produced play. The cast features Pete Mattaliano, who also appeared in the play's world premiere at Villanova University in 1972. Joseph Papp subsequently presented IN THE BOOM BOOM ROOM on Broadway in 1973 starring Robert Loggia, Charles Durning and Madeline Kahn, and the following year at The Public with Christopher Lloyd and Ellen Greene. 2016 Recipients Announced for New York Innovative Theatre Awards

On Monday, September 26, 2016, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 12 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2016 recipients at its annual awards ceremony, The IT Awards. Hosted by a crowd favorite, Jason Kravits and directed by award winning director and sound designer, DeLisa White the ceremony took place from 7pm to 10pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College.

Variations Theatre Group to Present WAIT UNTIL DARK

Following the success of critically acclaimed productions of THE PILLOWMAN, NYIT Outstanding Revival Nominee 2015 TALK RADIO, and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST; Variations Theatre Group will present a newly adapted version of the classic thriller, WAIT UNTIL DARK, never before seen within the five boroughs of New York City, opening on October 30, 2015 at The Chain Theatre.  Forty-seven years after WAIT UNTIL DARK premiered on Broadway, Jeffery Hatcher has adapted Frederick Knott's 1966 original, giving it a new setting.  In 1944 Greenwich Village, Susan Hendrix, a blind, yet capable woman, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment, tormentors who will stop at nothing to get what they want.  As the climax builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormenters must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller's shattering conclusion.

Revival of David Rabe's HURLYBURLY Ends Off-Broadway Run Today

Variations Theatre Group's acclaimed production of David Rabe's HURLYBURLY will end its limited run today, March 1st at The Chain Theatre. The original production of HURLYBURLY took New York by storm in 1984, directed by Mike Nichols. Although the long-running Broadway hit was presented in three acts, David Rabe pared his script into a leaner two-act version for the 2005 Off-Broadway revival starring Ethan Hawke and Bobby Cannavale. It is this revised version which is presented by Variations Theatre Group by special arrangement with the playwright.
