Santino Fontana's smart and empathetic performance highlights the production of one of Broadway's best-written musicals.

Up next in the Encores! season is 1776, the classic Tony Award-winning musical about how the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence and gave birth to a new nation. A unique show that presents John Adams (Santino Fontana), Thomas Jefferson (John Behlmann), andBenjamin Franklin (John Larroquette) in all their fractious, fascinating complexity, 1776 features such beloved songs as 'Sit Down, John,' 'Cool, Cool, Considerate Men,' and 'He Plays the Violin.'

It's only appropriate that Tommy, who's committed to diversity and an int'l perspective in theater, is helming an Africa-set play that's Broadway's first ever whose writer, director and cast are all black women.

The Philly POPS will perform three Broadway's Greatest Hits concerts April 15-17 at the Kimmel Center.

Playing the radiant Martha Jefferson will be Nikki Renne Daniels, whose extensive Broadway credits include THE BOOK OF MORMON, PORGY AND BESS, ANYTHING GOES, and LES MISERABLES. Rehearsals for the production have only just begun and Nikki checked in with BroadwayWorld earlier this week to tell us all about her preparations. Check out the full interview below!

Midtown Direct Rep (MDR) concludes its 2015-16 Theater in the Loft series at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) with a staged reading of BLINK, written by Kate Moira Ryan and directed by Mark Armstrong.

Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced casting for the Encores! production of 1776, the classic Tony Award-winning musical about how the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence and gave birth to a new nation. 1776 will star Terence Archie, John Behlmann, Larry Bull, Nikki Renee Daniels, Andre De Shields, Macintyre Dixon, Santino Fontana, Alexander Gemignani, John Hickok, John Hillner, John Larroquette, Kevin Ligon, John-Michael Lyles, Laird Mackintosh, Michael McCormick, Michael Medeiros, Christiane Noll, Bryce Pinkham, Wayne Pretlow, Tom Alan Robbins, Robert Sella, Ric Stoneback, Jubilant Sykes, Vishal Vaidya, Nicholas Ward, and Jacob Keith Watson. 

In January 2016, the Dogs of Desire, the Albany Symphony's rock-inspired new music ensemble, and Music Director David Alan Miller will perform and record a concert of American composer David Mallamud's most successful commissions for the ensemble over the past ten years, including his homage to Parisian music hall culture, Last Call at the Folies Bergere, the Glam-Metal Opera, Lizardman, (text by Broadway lyricist Michael Cooper) Victorian Parlor Songs, a salsa-drenched Latin Daytime Soap Opera, (text by Aaron Jafferis), and an Irish-inspired piece Immram. Both the public concert and private recording session will take place at Skidmore College's Zankel Hall in Saratoga Springs, NY.

This reading, directed by Michael Rau, will be performed for one night only on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 7pm at SOPAC (One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). ELF The Musical is playing at the Theater at Madison Square Garden for a limited three week engagement from December 9 through December 27, 2015. Midtown Direct Rep (MDR) will present LET IT SING! Broadway Comes Home for the Holidays, a one-night-only benefit concert on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 7:30pm at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC, One SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ 07079).

Today, stars of ELF, Eric Petersen Veronica Kuehn, paid a visit to the Empire State Building, in honor of the monument being lit in green and gold for the musical's opening night toninght at Theater at Madison Square Garden. The production runs through December 27.
