Artistic Director Jack Viertel today announced casting for the Encores! production of 1776, the classic Tony Award-winning musical about how the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence and gave birth to a new nation. 1776 will star Terence Archie, John Behlmann, Larry Bull, Nikki Renee Daniels, Andre De Shields, Macintyre Dixon, Santino Fontana, Alexander Gemignani, John Hickok, John Hillner, John Larroquette, Kevin Ligon, John-Michael Lyles, Laird Mackintosh, Michael McCormick, Michael Medeiros, Christiane Noll, Bryce Pinkham, Wayne Pretlow, Tom Alan Robbins, Robert Sella, Ric Stoneback, Jubilant Sykes, Vishal Vaidya, Nicholas Ward, and Jacob Keith Watson. 

Albany Symphony to Host THE WILD AND WHIMSICAL WORLD OF DAVID MALLAMUD Concert, Recording Session

In January 2016, the Dogs of Desire, the Albany Symphony's rock-inspired new music ensemble, and Music Director David Alan Miller will perform and record a concert of American composer David Mallamud's most successful commissions for the ensemble over the past ten years, including his homage to Parisian music hall culture, Last Call at the Folies Bergere, the Glam-Metal Opera, Lizardman, (text by Broadway lyricist Michael Cooper) Victorian Parlor Songs, a salsa-drenched Latin Daytime Soap Opera, (text by Aaron Jafferis), and an Irish-inspired piece Immram. Both the public concert and private recording session will take place at Skidmore College's Zankel Hall in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Midtown Direct Rep (MDR) continues its 2015-16 Theater in the Loft series at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) with a staged reading of Evanston: A Rare Comedy, written by Michael Yates Crowley. This reading, directed by Michael Rau, will be performed for one night only on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 7pm at SOPAC (One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). The reading is $15 and open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at www.sopacnow.org or by calling 973-313-ARTS (2787).
