This week the National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) announced four finalists in its video competition aimed at highlighting the importance of theater education's contribution to crucial skill development needed for the 21st century workforce. Over 5,000 votes were cast on NCTF's Facebook page, which received over 13,000 visits during the competition.

Now that the warm weather is setting in...I mean continuing...it might seem counter-intuitive to sit your kids down in a dark theatre in the middle of the afternoon. Buttrust me, by the time Spring break rolls around, you'll have seen one playgroundtoo many and both you and your kids will be hungry for something more. That'swhen it's time to take advantage of being in (or close to) New York City and take insome awesome family theatre. Here are my top picks for Spring 2012. I've carefullyselected shows that are geared towards younger kids but not 100% annoying toparents. Carl Goodman, Executive Director of Museum of the Moving Image, today announced a seven-week extension for Jim Henson's Fantastic World, the Smithsonian traveling exhibition that explores the creative process of the world-renowned puppeteer, filmmaker, and television pioneer.

It's finally here! The first festival created for the development of children's theatre in New York is happening next month, and they've just announced their fab lineup of original, family-friendly shows!

Jim Henson's Fantastic World will be on view at Museum of the Moving Image for only one more week-closing on Sunday, March 4. The final weekend of the show, Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, 2012, features several special programs to mark the close of the successful national tour of this Smithsonian traveling exhibition, organized in partnership with The Jim Henson Legacy. On these two days, the Museum will give away a free limited-edition commemorative bookmark to ALL visitors (while supplies last).

The New York Children's Theater Festival has announced the accepted participants for its inaugural season, chosen by a judging panel of over 30 industry professionals including Kevin ("Elmo") Clash, Cheryl Henson (President, The Henson Foundation), John Tartaglia (Emmy, Tony, and Drama Desk Award nominated actor, producer, puppeteer), Thomas Schumacher (President, Disney Theatrical Productions), and Michael Jung, (Vice President, Theatrical Development, Walt Disney Imagineering).

Rosie O'Donnell has joined the advisory board of The New York Children's Theater Festival, it was announced today by Michael Shawn Lewis, co-founder of The Festival.

The annual event, which celebrates The New Victory Education Program, began with a performance honoring Henson at The New Victory Theater, 209 West 42nd Street. Tony Award nominee John Tartaglia (Avenue Q) hosted the evening featuring Joey Arias in a performance directed by Basil Twist; from 'Sesame Street' Big Bird and Telly Monster; cast members from Cummins and Scoullar's The Little Prince; Heather Henson and IBEX Puppetry; Tony Award winner Bill Irwin; Ralph Lee's Mettawee River Theatre Company; dancer/choreographer David Neumann; On the Lam Street Band; and the Reduced Shakespeare Company.

On September 24, 2011, the world-renowned puppeteer, filmmaker, and television pioneer, Jim Henson would have turned 75.

A very rare personal appearance by Frank Oz, conversations with Brian Henson and illustrator Brian Froud, 25th anniversary screenings of Labyrinth, a preview of the new movie The Muppets, and rare showings of Jim Henson's experimental television works, are among the highlights of the next three months of programs to be presented by Museum of the Moving Image in conjunction with the exhibition Jim Henson's Fantastic World.
