CMA Announces 2017 Touring Awards Finalists

In the midst of an exciting Awards season, CMA is proud to announce the 2017 CMA Touring Awards Finalists. Final voting to determine the winners of the CMA Touring Awards, which highlights vital behind-the-scenes members of the industry, begins Nov. 21 and closes Dec. 6.

New York-based nonprofit Queer Art is thrilled to present the inaugural Queer/Art/Prize, an unprecedented new award and ceremony honoring the work of diverse emerging and renowned LGBTQ artists. Made possible with support from HBOand developed in collaboration with the Queer Art artist community, Queer/Art/Prize immediately establishes itself as one of the most significant awards for LGBTQ artists in the world.

TORCH SONG, Starring Michael Urie, Adds Final Week at Second Stage Theater

Due to overwhelmingly strong ticket sales, the critically acclaimed production of Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song has added one final week of performances, announced Second Stage Theater (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Casey Reitz, Executive Director). The production will now play through Saturday, December 9 and will not be able to extend further.

BWW Review: THE FULL MONTY at Uptown Players

The 1997 British comedy film THE FULL MONTY was such a surprise hit, winning four Academy Awards on this side of the pond, that it was no shock to see it musicalized on the Great White Way only three short years later. For Broadway, the setting had been relocated from Northern England to the Northeast U.S. (Buffalo, New York to be exact), and although the men's drawers continue to be removed, the humorous and heartfelt storyline remains faithfully intact. And fortunately, the same can be said of the current production Uptown Players, Dallas' favorite LGBT-focused theatre company who confidently bares it all for their eager audiences.

Jody Sperling Nominated for a World Choreography Award

Jody Sperling has been selected as one of the nominees for a World Choreography Award in the Motion Picture Category for The Dancer. At the ceremony, she will also perform an as-yet-unseen solo that was originally choreographed for the film, but was never recorded.

BWW Review: THE SMARTEST GIRL IN THE WORLD at Imagination Stage

Sometimes playwrights don't know when to quit and there's a situation where an incidental plot point becomes a major one because it's unnecessarily brought to the forefront again and again. Miriam Gonzales' The Smartest Girl in the World suffers from this problem and it's too bad because otherwise there is plenty to like in Imagination Stage's season opener.

Graphic Novel Rock Album MONSTERSONGS Out Today
