Candido to Receive Ellington Center's 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award

The legendary Latin and Jazz percussionist Candido, now 103 years young, will be presented with the Duke Ellington Center's 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award, at DECFA's annual “Ring Dem Bells” holiday party and concert Monday, December 8 (5:30 to 9:30 PM) at the Landmark on the Park, 160 Central Park West (at 76th Street), it was announced by Mercedes Ellington, the noted dancer/choreographer, who is Duke Ellington's granddaughter and founder and artistic director of DECFA.

Winners of First Annual Duke Ellington Center's Vocal Jazz Competition Revealed

The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts (DECFA) launched its 1st Jazz Vocal Competition at New York City's 40th Annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington Jazz Festival on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Performing under sunny skies on a beautiful fall afternoon in New York City, the 23 competing singers demonstrated their unique vocal talents in front of an appreciative crowd who cheered them on with great enthusiasm. In the end, the three winners were:

26 Up-And-Coming Singers To Compete in Duke Ellington Center's 1st Jazz Vocalist Competition

The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts (DECFA) will launch its 1st Jazz Vocal Competition at New York City's 40th Annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington Jazz Festival on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The Competition, which will take place between 1:00 and 4:00 PM in the Performance Area at the southeast corner of 52nd Street and Avenue of Americas,, will feature 26 talented up-and-coming jazz vocalists who will be vying for cash prizes and opportunities to perform at future concerts and musical events presented by the Ellington Center for the Arts. .

Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU opened on September 28, 2014, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). The production is directed by six-time Tony Award-nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Scott Ellis (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Twelve Angry Men, 1776). BWW Reviews: Hartford Stage's A CHRISTMAS CAROL Gets a Few Updates at its Old Haunt

Apparently quite a few (more than 250,000 have seen the Michael Wilson adaptation getting its 16th run at Hartford Stage). This year's annual holiday tradition gets a bit of an update, all supervised by Wilson and directed by Maxwell Williams, that includes redesigned costumes; enhanced flying effects and choreography for the ghostly apparitions; the introduction of additional characters; and the latest in lighting design technology.

Cicely Tyson to Star in Film Version of THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL for Lifetime

Cynthia Stillwell Casting has put out a call on Backstage.com for the Lifetime film version of "The Trip to Bountiful," starring Vanessa Williams and Cicely Tyson. According to the project description, "A woman's determination to go home one last time restores hope and faith to her family."

Tom Cruise, Oprah & More Visit THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL!

Directed by Michael Wilson, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL is currently playing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 W 43rd Street) through October 9, 2013. Horton Foote's The Old Friends, directed by Michael Wilson runs now through October 6, 2013, in The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL to Host Talkback with Dan Rather Tomorrow

The critically acclaimed revival of Horton Foote's American masterpiece, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, will host a special free talkback following the performance on Tuesday, September 17 with acclaimed news anchor Dan Rather. New York Times reporter Wilborn Hampton will interview Mr. Rather about his friendship with playwright Horton Foote and their shared hometown of Wharton, TX the real life Bountiful. All ticket holders for the evening performance on September 17th are invited to stay for the talkback.

Michelle Obama & Daughters Take Trip to 'BOUNTIFUL'

According to a source within the production, the Obama ladies slipped into their seats just prior to the beginning of the show, though received a 'huge ovation' when they returned at intermission for the second act. After the curtain call, the Obamas went backstage and met the cast and crew, including Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams, and Tyson.

Cuba Gooding Jr. to Play Final Performance in THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, 8/27

Academy Award winner CUBA GOODING JR. will give his final performance in the critically acclaimed revival of Horton Foote's American masterpiece, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, on Tuesday, August 27th, due to a change in schedule for an upcoming film project. Gooding made his Broadway debut in the acclaimed revival and can currently be seen nationwide in the hit film, Lee Daniels' The Butler.

Vanessa Williams, Tom Wopat & More Set for THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL Talkback on 8/14

The critically acclaimed revival of Horton Foote's American masterpiece, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, will host a special free talkback following the performance on Wednesday evening, August 14th. Focusing on the creative process of THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, this one-night only event will feature stars VANESSA WILLIAMS, CUBA GOODING JR, TOM WOPAT and ADEPERO ODUYE and will be moderated by writer and critic, CARYN JAMES. All ticket holders for the evening performance on August 14th are invited to stay for the talkback. THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL talkback series kicked off last week with a panel featuring Betty Buckley, Ellen Burstyn, and Hallie Foote as they discussed the appeal and challenges of appearing in a Horton Foote play.
