Red Bull Theater will present the first major Off-Broadway production of this fantastical tragicomedy, featuring a witch, a fool, a young man, his two wives, an angry mob, and one very devilish dog. In a new production of the Jacobean play by Thomas Dekker, John Ford and William Rowley, this rarely-performed classic rips open the dark underbelly of a small town with humor and pathos. As the lives of its inhabitants intersect in strange and spellbinding ways, the power of a community for both good and for evil is revealed. A fresh new interpretation of classic 'The Glass Menagerie,' Tennessee Williams' compelling saga of the Wingfield family in the 1940s and their struggle with illusion and reality. Tom, the son, is torn between his role as the family breadwinner and his desire to lead a life of his own; his mother, Amanda (played by Tony Award-winning Judith Ivey), is a former Southern belle trying to maintain her dignity and her control in the gloom of their St. Louis tenement; and Laura, his frail sister, has retreated to an imaginary world caring for her collection of glass animals. Into their lives comes Jim, the Gentleman Caller, who changes the family forever.
