Composer, Paul Leschen (Drama Desk nominee for Twist!, Scissor Sisters) and book & lyricist Fred Sauter's (MFA, NYU Musical Theatre Writing Program) musical Bedbugs!!! is taking over the Upper West Side this week. Presented by Dale Joan Young, Bedbugs!!! is the award winning comedy sci-fi thriller rock musical. BEDBUGS!!! features the direction and choreography of Robert Bartley with musical supervision by Deborah Hurwitz. Scott is playing the role of Astrov, the forlorn visionary philosopher in this timeless play in which tempers flare and passions are ignited when an aging professor returns with his beautiful young wife to his family's country estate. In an interesting spin, the Weston production is set in contemporary Vermont. PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES is a country music revue that feels right at home in the big old barn that is the Cape Playhouse in Dennis. It offers up rockin' music, folksy charm, and good home cookin' with a cast of six who sing, dance, and play a variety of instruments.
This summer the Texas Repertory Theatre Company serves up a slice of apple pie and southern charm with PUMP BOYS AND THE DINETTES. Prior to the show, I wasn't really sure what to expect. It certainly sounded like something that had country charm splattered all over it. Turns out, I wasn't too far off. Being born and bred in Texas along with an affinity for diners this was a great treat.
