The Public Announces 'Kicking A Dead Horse' Extension

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Mara Manus) announced that KICKING A DEAD HORSE, a new play written and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard and featuring Tony Award nominee Stephen Rea, has extended its run by two weeks. Following a sold-out run at Ireland's Abbey Theatre, it will preview at The Public on Wednesday, June 25 and run through Sunday, August 10 with an official press opening on Monday, July 14 at 7 PM.

The Public Theater continues its spring season with the U.S. premiere of Drunk Enough to Say I Love You?, a new play by Caryl Churchill presented in association with the Royal Court Theatre. This two-character play, directed by James Macdonald and featuring Scott Cohen and Samuel West, comes to The Public after an acclaimed run at the Royal Court in London last year. Drunk Enough to Say I Love You? will begin previews on Wednesday, March 5 and run through Sunday, April 6 with an official press opening on Sunday, March 16 at 7PM. The 2008 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has been awarded to Judith Thompson for her critically acclaimed play Palace of the End, marking the first time a Canadian writer has received the prestigious playwriting award's highest honor. Thompson received $20,000 and a signed and numbered print by artist Willem de Kooning at a special 30th Anniversary ceremony on Monday, March 10th at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas where Ms. Blackburn first became involved in theatre.
