In its tenth anniversary season, THE CROSSING -- the extraordinary chamber choir from Philadelphia, dedicated to new music and conducted by Donald Nally -- has commissioned seven of the world's foremost composers to compose fifteen-minute musical responses to Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri (translated as 'The Limbs of our Jesus'), a monumental seven-part cantata cycle composed in 1680 and known as the first Lutheran oratorio.

In its tenth anniversary season, THE CROSSING -- the extraordinary chamber choir from Philadelphia, dedicated to new music and conducted by Donald Nally -- comes to New York beginning today, June 16, 2016 to perform the NY premiere of THE FIFTH CENTURY, a large-scale work for the rare combination of choir and saxophone quartet by the iconic avant-garde English composer GAVIN BRYARS. The event, which will also feature the brilliant sax quartet PRISM and will have Bryars in the audience, takes place at7:00 p.m. at Trinity Church, Wall Street (75 Broadway).

In the second half of the CSO's Festival: Vienna 1900, CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov will conduct the Mozart & Schubert program featuring guest pianist Stewart Goodyear. In homage to Franz Schubert, the great pianist and composer Franz Liszt took Schubert's piano solo and transcribed it for piano and orchestra. The resulting Wanderer Fantasy is a dynamic and colorful work combining the talents of these two musical giants. Mozart's final and most masterful symphony anchors this absorbing and intriguing program.

In this first installment of the CSO's Festival: Vienna 1900, five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw will demonstrate her unsurpassed versatility with songs created especially for her by Argentinian master composer, Grammy Award winner, and Musical America's Composer of the Year, Osvaldo Golijov. Upshaw will also perform the role of a young angel praising the delights of heaven in the radiant finale of Mahler's sweetest symphony. Led by CSO Music Director Rossen Milanov, the full program will include Strauss' Voices of Spring Waltzes, Golijov's Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra, and Mahler's Symphony No. 4.
