Geordie Johnson and Irene Poole to Star in Tarragon' THE BAKELITE MASTERPIECE

Tarragon Theatre presents the world premiere of The Bakelite Masterpiece, written by Tarragon playwright-in-residence Kate Cayley, directed by Tarragon's Artistic Director Richard Rose and starring two award-winning, powerhouse actors, Geordie Johnson and Irene Poole. Set in the Netherlands in the aftermath of World War II, this penetrating new play exploring art, forgery and war crimes opens October 29 and runs to November 30 (with previews from October 21) in Tarragon's Extraspace.

TRYING Opens 8/22 at International City Theatre

It's 1967. Lyndon B. Johnson is in office, Jackie Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis have just become an "item," protests against the Vietnam war are going strong - and Judge Francis Biddle, former Attorney General under FDR and Chief Judge at the Nuremburg Trials, is 81 years old. Trying, the award-winning play inspired by the real-life experiences of playwright Joanna McClelland Glass as personal secretary to Biddle during the last year of his life, opens at International City Theatre on Aug. 22, directed by John Henry Davis and starring Tony Abatemarco and Paige Lindsey White.

Anne Trites Named New Director of Development at TDF

Theatre Development Fund (TDF), one of the country's foremost not-for-profit service organizations for the performing arts, has announced that Anne Trites will assume the post of Director of Development. The announcement was made by TDF's Executive Director, Victoria Bailey. Ms. Trites, who will begin her duties on June 30, has held the positions of Director of Marketing and Communications/Professor (adjunct) of Theatre Management, Yale School of Drama/Yale Repertory Theatre and Director of Development and Communications at The Canadian Stage Company.

College Students Invited to Join Virtual Choir for New Bartram and Hill Musical, 6/24-26

Music theatre practitioners from around the world will gather at Sheridan College June 24-26, 2014 for Song, Stage and Screen IX an international conference of papers, talks and practical demonstrations designed to bring together leaders to discuss music theatre. To celebrate the conference theme, 'The Art of Collaboration in Musical Theatre', The Theory of Relativity by Drama Desk Award nominated writers Neil Bartram and Brian Hill will have a one-time, live performance upon the opening of the conference featuring a global virtual choir.

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV to Run 2/22-4/19 at the Fountain

A young painter must reconcile his remarkable artistic gifts with the austerity and singular devotion required by his faith. Stephen Sachs directs the Los Angeles premiere of Aaron Posner's award-winning stage adaptation of Chaim Potok's acclaimed novel, My Name is Asher Lev, opening Feb. 22 at the Fountain Theatre.

Guillotine Theatre to Present John Morogiello's CIVILIZING LUSBY at Page-to-Stage, 9/2

John Morogiello's newest play will get its first DC reading by a troupe that's been associated with the emerging playwright since 2006. Morogiello's plays have been produced at the Abingdon Theatre Company and Greenwich Street T?heatre (NYC), Old Globe Theatre (San Diego), Oldcastle Theatre Company (Vermont), Mountain Playhouse (Pennsylvania), the New Jersey Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Canadian Stage Company and the English Theatre of Vienna (Austria). Locally, his work has been seen at Rep Stage and at the Capital Fringe Festival, where the press referred to him as a "comic genius" in 2009.

Heart Song, the newest comedy/drama from Stephen Sachs (Bakersfield Mist, Cyrano), opens at The Fountain Theatre on May 25with Shirley Jo Finney (In the Red and Brown Water) directing and choreography by internationally renowned flamenco dancer Maria 'Cha Cha' Bermudez.
