As the days dwindled down to a precious few in 2014, a few cabaret goers and performers in what is affectionately but also self-mockingly called the “cabaret community” would sidle up and ask if I was planning my annual end-of-the year “Best Of” column, similar to the “Top 20 Bests and Favorites” piece over the first half of the year I posted back in early July. I would respond in the negative with very reasonable and believable excuses, but the truth is I didn't want to reveal my “Bests” of the year until the voting for the 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Awards had ended. There's enough baggage and backstage whispering that comes with administering the BWW Awards, so I wasn't about to publish any opinions that might influence the vote while it was in process. I may be crazy but I'm not masochistic. But now all bets are off. You want lists? I'll give you lists.

New York-based singer, songwriter, and performer Morgan James releases her critically acclaimed debut album, 'Hunter' out February 9th on Sony Music. The album is produced by jazz and bluegrass guitarist Doug Wamble. You can catch Morgan's UK 11 date tour in February - taking in The O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on Feb 17th.

The cast of the Tony Award-winning hit Beautiful just celebrated the show's one year anniversary. Since opening on Broadway on January 12, 2014, Beautiful has broken all box office records at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where it recently became the highest grossing production in the theatre's history. Leading the company is Tony winner Jessie Mueller, who has been with the show all along the way. Mueller just chatted with BroadwayWorld about her year as Carole King, working with Sara Bareiless on her new WAITRESS musical, performing at the Kennedy Center Honors, and so much more. New York City's role in the Light of Day Foundation's global battle against Parkinson's Disease is expanding significantly for the 15th anniversary LIGHT OF DAY WINTERFEST 2015 with the addition of the NYC COMEDY CLUB CRAWL FUNDRAISER, led by the first comedian to publicly state he is fighting and beating Parkinson's disease, RICK SHAPIRO, and very special guests ARTIE LANGE and JIM GAFFIGAN, TOMORROW, Tuesday, Jan. 13 at three of Manhattan's top comedy venues.

An historical one-of-a-kind gallery exhibit highlighting the legacy of Asbury Park's West Side African-American music scene – from Count Basie to Billy Brown – has opened at Heaven Art Gallery, 721 Cookman Ave., as part of Light of Day Foundation's LIGHT OF DAY WINTERFEST 2015.

Just the word 'Groovin' gives it away. Felix Cavaliere's Rascals are coming to San Diego on Saturday, January 24, 2015. (In fact, tickets would make great stocking stuffers or Hanukkah surprises.) The band, led by keyboardist and an original lead singer of The Rascals Felix Cavaliere, performs at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m.
