The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band formed in Southern California during the spring of 1966 as a scruffy, young jug-band. Forty-two years later, the quartet (Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter and John McEuen) is still going strong.

National Jazz Museum Host Free Events May 18 & 20

The National Jazz Museum in Harlem will host two free events May 18 and 20 at the Visitors Center (104 East 126th Street, Stuite 2C). Special Guest New Orleans poet/performer Chuck Perkins will participate on Tuesday, May 18 for Jazz for Curious Listeners Tuning in to Treme: Hymns, Dirges and Misdemeanors starting at 7pm. On Thursday, May 20 NJMH welcomes Dave Samuels, Vibraphonist, educatour and author will participate at 6:30pm. On Friday, May 21 at the Dwyer Cultural Center 'Take the A Train: A Big Band Swing Dance' featuring NJMH All Star Big Band directed by Loren Schoenberg. Tickets are $20. Virginia Stage Company Announces 32nd Season, Incl. World Premiere of Bruce Hornsby Musical

Virginia Stage Company will produce the world premiere of SCKBSTD, A New Musical by Bruce Hornsby as part of its 2010-2011 season, VSC Artistic Director Chris Hanna announced today. The production will be part of VSC's American Soil Project, the Company's multi-year new play development project that explores the cultural fabric of southeastern Virginia.
