Trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg was inspired by Louis Armstrong. Alto saxophonist Tia Fuller was influenced by Cannonball Adderley. On Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm, at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, they will present a groundbreaking concert with no musical borders in a concert presented by the New Jersey Jazz Society. Tickets are $20.

The 29th Annual Bistro Awards gala, set to take place tonight, March 4, has announced two new presenters. Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar, Tony, Grammy, and Golden Globe-winning composer/lyricist, who wrote the scores to such musicals as Pippin, Wicked, Godspell, and The Magic Show, will present Ben Vereen, the Tony Award-winning actor-singer-dancer, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Recently launched by Cafe Carlyle, the Late Night Series expands the storied New York venue's entertainment offerings while making the signature Carlyle experience-exceptional artists in a singularly intimate and elegant setting-more accessible. InThe New York Observer, Rex Reed has hailed the Late Night Series as 'good news' and applauded it for 'bringing excitement and joy to People Who Know Things.' Continuing on the series' previous success, the winter season will offer recurring performances by some of cabaret's most promising and acclaimed talent today, including Hilary Gardner, Ryan Silvermanand Kate Davis with special guests Bria Skonberg and Benny Benack. The Tony Award-winning actor-singer-dancer Ben Vereen, who has appeared in numerous shows on Broadway and in his own one-man shows around the country, will be honored, along with 17 others, at the 29th Annual Bistro Awards gala, which recognizes outstanding achievement in New York cabaret, jazz, and comedy. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at Gotham Comedy Club, 208 W. 23rd St. (between 7th & 8th avenues).

Three hot NYC jazz bands will play in Louis's Garden this summer: Bria's Hot Five with Bria Skonberg today, July 4th - Louis Armstrong's birthday, Jon-Erik Kellso and the EarRegulars on July 20th and Peter & Will Anderson Sextet on August 17th. Each concert is at 2:00 pm. Concerts include complimentary red beans n' rice (Louis's favorite recipe) & sweet tea. And, since Louis always celebrated his birthday on July 4th birthday cake will be served during the Fourth of July event to celebrate!

Last night, Broadway divas Chita Rivera, Charlotte d'Amboise, Linda Lavin, composer John Bucchino, the legendary Marilyn Maye, sax man Dave Koz, internet sensation Colleen Ballinger/Miranda Sings and West End leading man/Swedish pop star Peter Jöback were all seen cavorting, cheering and/or entertaining each other at Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland.

Each year since 1976, the New Jersey Jazz Society has presented Jazzfest, one of the best mainstream jazz festivals in the entire metropolitan area. This year is no exception as this popular jazz festival presents nine hours of great music in the air conditioned comfort of two concert halls plus outdoor entertainment, a food court and vendors selling everything from hard-to-find CDs to crafts and interesting merchandise.
