Producers Barry & Fran Weissler and Howard & Janet Kagan have announced casting for Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's PIPPIN, directed by Diane Paulus. PIPPIN will begin preview performances on Broadway Saturday, March 23, 2013 and officially open Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Music Box Theatre. Today in 1966, Sweet Charity opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 608 performances. Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon, the musical was directed and choreographed for Broadway by Bob Fosse starring his wife and muse Gwen Verdon. It is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay for Nights of Cabiria. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1966, where it was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and also ran in the West End as well as having revivals and international productions.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association today announced the Hollywood Bowl summer 2013 subscription series and single events for its 92nd season at the historic venue. The Hollywood Bowl is one of the most renowned summer cultural venues in the world and has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1922.
FSPA Students Experience Broadway with Master Classes, NEWSIES and More

Musical theater students from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) traveled to New York City on January 18-21 to hone their craft and take master classes with Broadway artists. The customized weekend program was offered to FSPA by Broadway Artists Alliance (BAA) of New York City. Classes were held at Ripley-Grier Studios, where many Broadway shows audition and rehearse. The memorable weekend featured a performance of Broadway's hit Tony Award-winning musical Newsies, including a special opportunity to meet and talk afterwards with members of the cast. Students also enjoyed a special reception with FSPA alumni currently living and working in New York City.

California Musical Theatre Executive Producer Richard Lewis announced a varied lineup of musicals for the 2013 season of Sacramento Music Circus at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 63rd season for what has become a Northern California summer tradition. The five-show season will include the Music Circus premiere of the Kander and Ebb hit Chicago; a production of The Wizard of Oz based on the iconic movie; the Wells Fargo Pavilion premiere of the American theater masterpiece Show Boat; the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The King and I; and Sugar, the stage version of the classic film comedy Some Like It Hot.

Veteran Bob Fosse dancers Lloyd Culbreath and Valarie Pettiford will be teaching a Fosse Workshop February 4,5,6,& 7th in New York City at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center. The workshop will be comprised of 45 invited professional dancers. The dancers will be taught several Fosse numbers that best comprise the style and technique of the legendary Broadway director and choreographer.
