The Citizens Theatre today announces its Autumn 2014 season including: A new production of Shakespeare's Hamlet directed by Dominic Hill and starring Brian Ferguson, Roberta Taylor and Peter Guinness; Headlong's 5-star production of 1984, transferring direct from a West End run for its Scottish premiere; National Theatre of Scotland's gutsy production of In Time O' Strife, Joe Corrie's examination of a Fife mining community; Kill Johnny Glendenning, a brutal new comedy by young Scottish writer DC Jackson; and a new production of A Christmas Carol directed by Dominic Hill.

From three-time Oscar(R) nominee John Logan, the Showtime drama series Penny Dreadful debuted to 1.443 million viewers last night, besting the series premieres of recent network dramas Homeland and Masters of Sex by five percent (both delivered 1.38 million) in their first seasons. The series premiere of Penny Dreadful drew 872,000 at 10 p.m.

SHOWTIME will be available to 74 million households during a Free Preview Weekend this Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 11. Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary special, Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor, delivered 3.6 million viewers in L+SD for the daytime simulcast and primetime encore. On Saturday, BBC AMERICA was the #1 cable network on Twitter, Doctor Who was #1 on Twitter in all of television and the series set a record on Tumblr with the highest level of activity of any televised event ever, surpassing the Super Bowl and MTV's Video Music Awards.

Doctor Who's 50th anniversary episode averaged 10.2 million viewers in the UK and peaked at 10.61 million viewers on BBC1 according to preliminary ratings, delivering its best ratings in nearly 3 years (since Christmas 2010).
