2012 Steinberg Playwright 'Mimi' Awards Honoring David Henry Hwang Postponed

Previously scheduled for this coming Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., the 2012 Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust's presentation of the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award to David Henry Hwang at the Lincoln Center Theater has been postponed to a later date due to expected weather conditions. The new date and further details will be announced shortly.

Bill Rauch Awarded Zelda Fichlander Award by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation

Bill Rauch, Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is the 2012 recipient of The Zelda Fichandler Award recognizing an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre. The $5000 award, given by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, heralds both accomplishment to date and promise for the future, and commends deep commitment to a community.

CHINGLISH's David Henry Hwang Wins Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award; Ceremony Set for 10/29

Today, as Berkeley Repertory Theatre holds its final rehearsal for the West Coast premiere of Chinglishand prepares this production for a trip to Hong Kong, the show's celebrated author has earned another honor. The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust announced this morning that David Henry Hwang will receive the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, a biennial prize that recognizes and encourages the artistic excellence and achievement of an American playwright whose body of work has made significant contributions to the American theatre.

OSF Announces Cynthia Rider as Next Executive Director

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival announced today the appointment of Cynthia Rider as its next executive director, succeeding current executive director Paul Nicholson, who retires in December after a 33-year tenure with OSF.

Joe Manganiello Joins William H. Macy in HERO Theatre's SMALL CRAFT WARNINGS Reading Tonight, 7/29

HERO Theatre previously announced that Joe Manganiello of HBO's True Blood and feature film Magic Mike would join Emmy Award winner William H. Macy, star of Showtime's Shameless and Academy Award nominee for Fargo, in a benefit reading of Tennessee Williams' "Small Craft Warnings", directed by John Frank Levey. The benefit will be held today, July 29 at 6pm at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, Calif. The event will include a silent auction.

HERO Theatre announced the full cast for their benefit staged reading of Tennessee Williams' "Small Craft Warnings" to be led by Emmy Award winner William H. Macy, star of Showtime's Shameless and Joe Manganiello of HBO's True Blood and feature film Magic Mike. The cast includes Tim Bagley, Stephanie Beatriz, Elisa Bocanegra, Dan Donohue, Brent Jennings, and Sam Murphy. The director is John Frank Levey. The benefit will be held on Sunday, July 29 at 6pm at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, CA and will include a silent auction.

Oregon Shakespeare Festiva Opens ALL THE WAY, 7/28

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will produce the world premiere of All the Way, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan and directed by Bill Rauch, OSF artistic director. The production is the fourth commission fromAmerican Revolutions: the United States History Cycle to premiere at OSF and the second this season. All the Way is the third Robert Schenkkan play produced at OSF (Handler, 2002; By the Waters of Babylon, 2005).

he Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced that the Fifth Annual Steinberg Playwright "Mimi" Awards will be presented on Monday, October 29, 2012. The Mimi Awards promote theater as a vital part of our culture by nurturing American playwrights and encouraging the development and production of new American plays. The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust will present the 2012 Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award at this year's ceremony, which will be held at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. The Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award is presented biennially to honor and encourage the artistic excellence and achievement of an American playwright whose body of work has made significant contributions to the American theater. The recipient of the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award will receive a cash award of $200,000. The Steinberg Playwright Awards and the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Awards are presented in alternate years. Past recipients are: · Lisa D'Amour and Melissa James Gibson, Steinberg Playwright Award, 2011 · Lynn Nottage, Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, 2010 · David Adjmi, Tarell Alvin McCraney and Bruce Norris, Steinberg Playwright Awards, 2009 · Tony Kushner, Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, 2008 These playwrights were each presented with a monetary award along with "The Mimi," a statuette designed by Tony Award-nominated scenic designer and architect David Rockwell. William H. Macy to Lead SMALL CRAFT WARNINGS Reading for HERO Theatre This Summer

HERO Theatre has just announced that William H. Macy, star of Showtime's Shameless and Academy Award-nominated for Fargo, will star in a benefit reading of Tennessee Williams' "Small Craft Warnings", directed by John Levey. The presentation will take place in Los Angeles, Summer 2012. This will mark HERO Theatre's west coast premiere.

Louis Cancelmi, Dashiell Eaves, et al. Join Olympia Dukakis and Austin Pendleton in KING LEAR

HERO Theatre announced today that the cast of the "King Lear" benefit staged reading starring Olympia Dukakis and directed by Austin Pendleton will include Louis Cancelmi (Sarah Kane's "Blasted" at Soho Rep), Lynn Cohen ("Sex and the City," Tina Howe's "Chasing Manet'), Dashiell Eaves ("Becky Shaw", "A Behanding In Spokane"), Paul Lazar (Classic Stage Company's "Three Sisters", "Silence of the Lambs") and George Morfogen ("Freud's Last Session", CSC's "Three Sisters", and HBO's "OZ"). The cast also includes Elisa Bocanegra, Seth Duerr, Korey Jackson, Albert Jones, Thomas Kopache, James Martinez, Desiree Matthews, Anya Migdal, Liam Mitchell and Bobby Plasencia.

According to Ashland Daily Tidings, Tony award-winning director Julie Taymor will receive an Ashland Independent Film Festival award.

JESUS RIDE Extended Through May 12

Award-winning solo artist Mike Schlitt, in association with Son of Semele, has extended his solo-hit Jesus Ride through May 12. The production, which garnered "Outstanding Solo Show" at the New York Fringe in 2009, has been running at Son of Semele Theater since March 9 and will continue through mid-May playing Saturday evenings.

The production, which garnered "Outstanding Solo Show" at the New York Fringe in 2009, was presented at Son of Semele Theater last year and will return there this spring for a 5-week run that will culminate in an Easter Sunday performance and celebration.
