New York Live Arts Presents RE: AWAKENINGS Performances for Live Ideas Festival, Now thru 4/21

New York Live Arts is set to present several Re: Awakenings performances as part of the inaugural Live Ideas festival. New York Live Arts' newest program initiative, Live Ideas is an annual humanities festival that will explore a different theme each year over several days. The inaugural festival, The Worlds of Oliver Sacks, will take place from today, April 17 through 21, 2013 and is comprised of more than 20 events, including performances, films and discussions that showcase works of art and spark conversations that engage the prevalent themes in the acclaimed neurologist's works.

New York Live Arts' Executive Artistic Director, Bill T. Jones, presents Live Ideas, the latest program initiative for the Chelsea-based organization that has become an internationally recognized destination for innovative movement-based artistry and artists actively engaged with the political, intellectual and cultural currents of our times. Taking place each spring, Live Ideas will concentrate on a different theme, explored through conversation and artistic presentations over several days. The inaugural festival, taking place today, April 17th through Sunday, April 21st, 2013 at New York Live Arts is themed The Worlds of Oliver Sacks.

New York Live Arts Commissions RE: AWAKENINGS Film

New York Live Arts has commissioned award-winning filmmaker Bill Morrison to create a new work for the Live Ideas: The Worlds of Oliver Sacks festival. Titled Re: Awakenings, this new short film by the master behind Decasia and other such classic quickenings of long lost filmstock will also feature an original score by renowned composer Philip Glass. Re: Awakenings will be screened prior to all music, theater and dance performances that are part of the Live Ideas festival and taking place from April 18 - 21 in the theater at New York Live Arts.

Cellist Maya Beiser Performs ELSEWHERE at BAM Festival, Now thru 10/20

Cellist Maya Beiser will see the New York premiere of her new production, ELSEWHERE, a "CelloOpera," in four performances from tonight, October 17 through 20 at 7:30pm, during the 2012 BAM Next Wave Festival in the inaugural season of the Fishman Space, part of BAM's new Richard B. Fischer Building which opens in September 2012 at 321 Ashland Place in Brooklyn. ELSEWHERE is produced by Beth Morrison Projects.

AFI Fest 2012 Announces Full Lineup

AFI Fest 2012 have announced the entire lineup for the annual festival, set to open Nov. 1 and conclude Nov. 8. The 136 films chosen are listed below:

Todd Reynolds and More Set for Rite of Summer Music Festival Finale Tonight, 9/3

In a blazing Labor Day finale to Rite of Summer's 2012 season, Todd Reynolds, 'New York's reigning Jazz and Classical Violinist' (The New Yorker), and fiddle-player of choice for avant-gardists everywhere, has assembled a stellar cast of characters to explore the vortex where bluegrass, electronica, minimalism and classical music swirl. Featuring music of glass harmonica virtuoso Jonny Rodgers, avant-bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice (The Jordan Tice Trio), and the singular percussionist Mathias Kunzli, currently on tour with Regina Spektor. This will take place on Colonels' Row tonight, September 3rd.

Cellist Maya Beiser Performs Michael Harrison’s Just Ancient Loops Tonight, 6/17

Maya Beiser, described by the Boston Globe as having "virtuoso chops, rock-star charisma, and an appetite for pushing her instrument to The Edge of avant-garde adventurousness," will give the world premiere of Michael Harrison's Just Ancient Loops with new film by Bill Morrison during the 12-hour Bang on a Can Marathon after 9pm tonight, June 17, 2012 at World Financial Center Winter Garden (220 Vesey Street, NYC). A recording of Just Ancient Loops will be released on Cantaloupe Music in fall 2012. The album, entitled Time Loops, also includes Harrison's Hijaz for Maya Beiser and the Young People's Chorus of New York City with Harrison on piano, plus music by Arvo Part and J.S. Bach.

Brooklyn Academy of Music Announces 2012 Next Wave Festival Lineup

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, today announced programming for the 2012 Next Wave Festival, in its 30th year. The festival runs from September 5 to January 19 and comprises dance, theater, music, music-theater, nouveau cirque, film, and multimedia events.
