American composer Michael Gordon has been named the first-ever Composer-in-Residence of the Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC). The three-year residency, beginning this month, will comprise a new work composed by Mr. Gordon each year to be workshopped by the choristers and Artistic Director Francisco J. Nuñez and premiered by YPC at the end of each season. Mr. Gordon's residency will also include another new work composed for YPC's younger children, YPC's Satellite Schools children, and its community choruses; as well as masterclasses for YPC singers; and his participation as an artistic advisor.

Joining the Britt Orchestra musicians are 15 members of Steiger Butte Drum, a drum troupe composed of members of the local Klamath Tribes; 30 brass and percussion musicians from Southern Oregon University; and a 50-member chorus. The performances are free, and are being presented as part of the centennial celebration of the U.S. National Park Service.

On June 9, National Sawdust, 80 N. Sixth Street, Brooklyn, will present 'Kaze (The Wind) / Harmonic Constellations,' an evening of two premieres starring Mari Kimura, the renowned violinist/composer who is best known for her use of subharmonics and interactive motion sensor technologies. The evening will offer debut performances of 'Kaze (The Wind),' an audio/visual chamber piece composed by Kimura, and 'Harmonic Constellations,' an entrancing work of microtonal harmonies composed for her by Michael Harrison. It will also unveil µgic, a new digital music controller, and launch two CDs.

These world premiere performances—which represent the first opera staged at National Sawdust—feature music direction by Evan Ziporyn and music by the ensemble Either/Or.

Organized by independent curator and scholar Robert M. Rubin, the exhibition includes 120 works of 40 artists and directors that dissect, appropriate, and redefine some of the past century's most iconic films through photography, drawing, sculpture, print, and video. They are joined by a selection of rare film ephemera re-positioned as artworks ranging from costume designs for Rosemary's Baby to the complete original key book stills from The 39 Steps. With a nod to the “walkers,” or zombies, from the TV series The Walking Dead, the exhibition's title references the lingering power of film detritus on the imagination of the living.

Michael Gordon's new album Dystopia will be released by Cantaloupe Music today, February 24, 2015. The title piece, a city symphony for Los Angeles, was commissioned and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The live, uncut LA Phil recording of this world premiere was conducted by David Robertson at Walt Disney Concert Hall in January 2008.
