Last night, September 23, the stars of Memphis were honored with a Wall of Fame painting at Tony di Napoli's restaurant to kick off the new Broadway season and celebrate the cast's one year anniversary on Broadway. The painting was created by Dan May. Valerie Smaldone produced and emceed the event, which was hosted by Tony di Napoli's Bruce Dimpflmaier.

Last night, on June 13, the 2010 Tony Awards honored the best of Broadway in the 2009-2010 season. MEMPHIS was the big winner of the night in the musical category, earning honors for Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, and Best Orchestrations. BroadwayWorld was on hand at the show's post-Tony celebration at the Empire Hotel.
New Dramatists, Tony Honor recipient and one of the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, honored two-time Tony Award winner Julie Taymor with their 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 61st Annual Spring Luncheon tribute, to be held Tuesday, May 18th at the New York Marriott Marquis. Ms. Taymor's award was presented to her by Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren, who stars in Taymor's soon-to-be-released film adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatricals served as the Luncheon Chair. Disney Theatricals and Robert Boyett were the benefactors for New Dramatists 61st Annual Spring Luncheon.
'Time to Give' is an historic collaboration between renowned Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet and the Tony Awards. A live, invitation-only auction (conducted by Christie's Lydia Fenet) of 13 celebrity autographed timepieces was the evening's centerpiece. Last week the New York Post reported that Justin Timberlake was interested in making a movie of MEMPHIS and this week ... it's Oliver Stone. The paper states that Stone is a big fan of the show which he's seen twice already and that he's been taking meetings with David Bryan. A representative for Stone confirms the director is interested in the project, telling the publication, 'He's thinking about it.'
