Elaine Stritch To Be Honored At LOVE N COURAGE Gala 2/9

Tony- and Emmy- winner Elaine Stritch will be honored for her 'many achievements and humanity' on Monday, February 9 at the 6th annual pre-Valentine's gala, LOVE 'N' COURAGE hosted by Betsy Von Furstenberg at The National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South) with cocktails at 6:30pm, dinner at 7:00pm. Proceeds benefit the emerging playwrights' program at Theater for the New City, one of the last bastions for experimental and political theater in 21st century New York in the East Village. Joining the list of previously announced list of celebrities who will turn out to salute Ms. Stritch on Feb. 9 are Barbara Barrie, Eli Wallach, Anne Jackson, along with Hal and Judy Prince.

Applications Available For INNOVATIVE THEATRE HONORARY AWARD

The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway is pleased to announce that applications for the 2009 Honorary Awards are available online now and are due by 6pm on May 1, 2009. Now in their 5th year, the IT Awards have honored over 500 of the brightest and most influential artists from the Off-Off-Broadway community. The Honorary Awards are: * The Artistic Achievement Award, presented to an individual who has made a significant artistic contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community;

Sondheim, BILLY ELLIOT & Arias Among 2009 GLAAD Media Award Nominees

The nominations for the 2009 GLAAD Media Awards have been announced, BILLY ELLIOT and Road Show were among the New York theatre related show nominees. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation also announced that Tyra Banks will receive the Excellence in Media Award and Suze Orman will be awarded the Vito Russo Award. GLAAD also give honors to comicbooks, advertising and journalism. Ceremonies will be held on March 28 in New York at the Marriott Maquis, April 18 in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre and on May 9 in San Francisco at the San Francisco Hilton.

Gotham Chamber Opera Presents L'ISOLA DISABITATA

In February of 2009, in honor of the bicentennial of Joseph Haydn's death, Gotham Chamber Opera will present the New York City stage premiere of L'isola disabitata (Desert Island) in a new production staged by Mark Morris at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College.

This radical adaptation of Marie Irene Fornes groundbreaking 1971 drama Fefu and Her Friends is created and conceived by Clove Galilee and Jenny Rogers. Developed through Mabou Mines Suite/Space and the HERE Arts Center Artist Residency Program (HARP) with overall support from INTAR Theater. Opening night is slated for Thursday January 8, 2009.

Joyce Theater Announces 2009 Spring Season

The Joyce 2009 season kicks off on February 3 with Buglisi Dance Theatre presenting two different programs that will include three NYC premieres and one world premiere. Ronald K. Brown's Brooklyn-based Evidence, A Dance Company returns to The Joyce this year with an exciting NYC premiere, and Doug Varone and Dancers - back for its 10th Joyce season - also will feature a NYC premiere. Following them is the audience favorite Savion Glover, for a three-week season of electrifying tap set to Flamenco music. Then Ballet-Tech, under the Artistic Direction of Joyce founder Eliot Feld, will present two programs of post-classicism work with its 'Mandance Project.'

Busch And Seldes Headline 'Love and Courage' Benefit 2/9

Theater for the New City presents LOVE 'N' COURAGE, the 6th annual benefit for Theater for the New City's Emerging Playwrights Program, it has been announced by Crystal Field, Executive Artistic Director of Theater for the New City. HERE Arts Center in New York has announced that ARIAS WITH A TWIST has been extended to run through December 31, 2008. The CD ARIAS WITH A TWIST was released on October 3.

Celebrate Release of 'Arias With Twist' With Special Post-Show Toast on 10/3

On Friday, October 3rd, fans Joey Arias, star of Arias With A Twist are invited to come and celebrate as he is toasted after the show on the eve of his birthday. The evening will celebrate the release of his brand new CD from the critically acclaimed, twice-extended show. The performance begins at 9PM with the toast beginning at 10PM.
