Now, Deadline.com adds to the story noting that Paul Bettany is in the running to play Javert, and that he recently both read for the role and sung for it. The film is hoping to go into production later this year.

With a show as well-known worldwide as LES MISÉRABLES, casting is of the utmost importance. Though West End star Alfie Boe was long reported to be Cameron Mackintosh's first choice to play the iconic role of Jean Valjean in the long-anticipated film, Hugh Jackman is now in talks for the role.

There will be major cast changes in the legendary musical 'LES MISERABLES' at the Queen's Theatre from Thursday 23 June 2011. Baz Bamigboye has revealed in the UK Daily Mail today that Daniel Koek will take the stage as Lt. Cable when South Pacific hits the Barbican Theatre in London this summer. The Bartlett Sher production, which opened at Lincoln Center in 2008 and is currently on tour, will also star original Bloody Mary Loretta Ables Sayre and Paulo Szot as Emile DeBecque. The UK's Samantha Womack will play Nellie Forbush.
