Following a string of engagements in Russia and Armenia, Stephen Costello – star of back-to-back productions at the Metropolitan Opera earlier this year – returns New York to headline the company's free annual summer recital series in the city's parks. At Central Park SummerStage (June 12) and Brooklyn Bridge Park (June 14), the Tucker Award-winning tenor joins fellow Met stars soprano Susanna Phillips and mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong for a program of favorite arias and duets, accompanied by pianist Dan Saunders. As Opera News noted in a recent “Spotlight” double-page spread, “the all-American tenor” is now “at the top of his game.”

Blanka Zizka's ADAPT! Concludes The Wilma Theater's 2016-17 Season

WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING Continues The Wilma Theater's 2016/17 Season

Andrew Bovell's When the Rain Stops Falling continues the Wilma Theater's 2016-17 season. A fish falls from the sky in the year 2039. A man named Gabriel prepares to meet his adult son after being estranged for twenty years. He wonders why his son is coming and what he wants: to know who he is? Where he comes from? Where he belongs? Gabriel knows nothing; his own past escapes him. As the story of Gabriel's family unfolds onstage, his ancestors come alive around him to fill in the gaps. With its web of intricately overlapping connections, When the Rain Stops Falling follows four generations of a family from 1959 to 2039, and from London to Australia. As this family and their world evolve over time, one question remains: in the face of climate change, can we break our habits and change the way we live?

The Wilma Theater Continues 2015-16 season with New Stoppard Play THE HARD PROBLEM

Tom Stoppard's first new play since Rock 'n' Roll introduces us to Hilary, a 22-year-old psychology student applying for a coveted position with the Krohl Institute for Brain Science. As Hilary prays for strength to move beyond personal regrets, she passionately explores the blurred lines between science and psychology with her colleagues and her sometimes-lover Spike. Ethics are called into question as they delve into the 'hard problem' of consciousness versus gray matter, and debate whether altruism even exists. Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre in London, the Wilma-'America's foremost interpreter of the playwright's work' (Philadelphia Magazine)-is proud to be among the first to bring The Hard Problem to U.S. audiences.

BWW Reviews: Ocean State Theatre's THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a Tale of Two Musicals

Coincidentally, Ocean State Theatre Company happens to be presenting back-to-back productions which are two-person shows. The first one, The Meeting, was a serious drama depicting the fictional meeting between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. The second one is their current production of a much different show, the musical love story, The Last Five Years. While the first one had a noticeable but minor difference in the charisma and stage presence of its two performers, the second one is an example of just how obviously wide that gap can become and just how much the difference between its two leads can impact a production.
