IOWA Begins Previews Tomorrow at Playwrights Horizons

Previews begin tomorrow, today, March 20 for the Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) world premiere of IOWA, a new musical play written by Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist Jenny Schwartz (God's Ear, Somewhere Fun), music by Todd Almond (Stage Kiss at PH, Kansas City Choir Boy, The Tempest, On the Levee) and lyrics by Mr. Almond and Ms. Schwartz. Directed by two-time Obie Award winner Ken Rus Schmoll (Red Dog Howls, Middletown, What Once We Felt; next season's Antlia Pneumatica at PH), the musical play will be the fifth production of the theater company's 2014/2015 Season.

Theaterlab presents True Believer, a new play about identity, radicalism, and the passion of youth by Asa Merritt. Joshua Kahan Brody directs Kersti Bryan* in a solo performance with original live music by Bay Bryan. Thirteen performances will be staged at Theaterlab, 357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor in NYC from April 17-May 9, 2015.

Artists Repertory Theatre is proud to present Portland audiences with The Invisible Hand by Ayad Akhtar, directed by former Artistic Director Allen Nause, beginning March 10, 2015. This production is in association with Seattle's ACT Theatre and follows their production of the play last September with much of the same design team, but includes two new cast members. ACT's production was named 'Best Play' in the Broadway World 2014 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards. At the end of 2014, The Invisible Hand was produced Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop. Lincoln Center Theater welcomes Mamoudou Athie, Diane Lane, Gayle Rankin, and Tony Shalhoub in its production of The Mystery of Love and Sex, a new play by Bathsheba Doran. The production, which is directed by Sam Gold, began previews on February 5 and opens tonight, March 2, at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).
