Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere production of The Homecoming Queen, written by Ngozi Anyanwu and directed by Awoye Timpo. Now in its ninth season, the Obie Award winning The Fire This Time Festival will kick off on Monday, January 15 with an opening night reception at The Kraine Theater and continue with a special off-site event and panel discussion at Atlantic Theater Company on Wednesday, January 17, followed by full-length play readings and the 10-Minute Play Festival, directed this year by Candis Jones.

Chester Theatre Company (CTC) has received two Berkshire Theatre Awards for work seen on the stage of Chester's Town Hall Theatre this past summer. Actor Joel Ripka was cited for Outstanding Solo Performance Piece for Every Brilliant Thing (written by Duncan Macmillian with Jonny Donahoe, and directed by CTC Producing Artistic Director Daniel Elihu Kramer.) Every Brilliant Thing was also named the year's Outstanding New Play or Musical.

Quick Silver Theater Company will present staged readings of new works by emerging playwrights of color. QST's Playwrights of Color Summit is a week-long residency that allows previously unproduced playwrights an opportunity to work exclusively on their plays. These plays were submitted to QST as part of our POC Summit's call for new works. QST will be presenting its series in partnership with Ensemble Studio Theatre.

Vassar & New York Stage and Film's 33rd Powerhouse Season celebrates the opening of its highly anticipated musical workshop production of The Secret Life of Bees tonight, July 27, at 8 p.m. at the Vogelstein Center for Drama & Film, with performances continuing on Friday, July 28, Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30. The production is directed by Awoye Timpo, making her CTC directorial debut. In this 'deeply moral and deeply American play' (The New York Times), Reggie has worked his way up to supervisor at a faltering auto factory. Now he has to decide whether he owes his loyalty to himself, to his bosses, or to long-time family friend Faye and the younger workers on the line, Dez and Shanita. In the spirit of August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle, this third play from Morisseau's Detroit Trilogy explores the hard choices facing Americans barely squeezing by. It was named by the New York Times as 'one of six plays that reckon with an anxious America.'

Producing Artistic Director Daniel Elihu Kramer has announced Chester Theatre Company's 2017 Summer Season, which will feature an American Premiere, two New England Premieres, and the return of actor Joel Ripka in a one-man performance. And, in a first for CTC, the second half of the season will be staged in the round.
