Martin Sheen to Return to Stage in 'The Subject Was Roses' with Conroy & Geraghty at LA Music Center

Martin Sheen will return to the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play that brought him a Tony Award nomination in 1964, and join with Frances Conroy and Brian Geraghty in 'The Subject Was Roses' by Frank D. Gilroy, it was announced today by Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Michael Ritchie. 'The Subject Was Roses' replaces the previously announced 'Speed-the-Plow' by David Mamet as the first production in the Taper's 2010 season at the Los Angeles Music Center, February 10 through March 21, 2010. Opening is set for February 21.

Southeastern Premiere of FARRAGUT NORTH By Beau Willimon

The New York Times raved that Farragut North is 'Fast-paced! Has the topical thrill of an insider's tour of recent events!' and Variety declared 'not since The Best Man has the theater enjoyed such a heady thriller on presidential politicking.' The L.A. Times said Farragut North 'captures the frenzied scheming and counter-scheming of would-be Washington kingmakers! The play has a fresh accuracy that suggests the playwright, who worked for both Sen. Charles E. Schumer of New York and Howard Dean, the former governor of Vermont, was taking juicy notes on the campaign trail!'

Bellamy, White, Curtin and More Join Johnston and Chlumsky in SO HELP ME GOD!, Opens 11/18

As previously reported, My Girl's Anna Chlumsky and Kristen Johnston are set to headline the Mint Theater Company's SO HELP ME GOD! The Off-Broadway run, which will begin previews November 18th, opens officially at the Lucile Lortel Theatre Dec. 7 and runs through Dec. 20. Today, the full cast and creative team have been announced.

CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION Returns to Playwrights Horizons, 12/15

Following an acclaimed original sold-out run, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) proudly announces a limited return engagement of the company's recent World Premiere production of CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION, the new hit play by Annie Baker ('An original voice' - Daily News; 'A playwright to know' - Newsday). Directed by Sam Gold ('A magic-fingered director' - Variety; 'An uncommonly observant eye and ear' - The New York Times), the original engagement opened Tuesday, October 13 to across-the-board rave reviews and was ultimately extended twice by critical and audience demand through Saturday, November 21. The return limited engagement will begin performances Tuesday, December 15 at Playwrights Horizons' Peter Jay Sharp Theater with tickets on sale through Sunday, January 17, 2010.

Colony Theatre presents JAY JOHNSON: THE TWO AND ONLY! 12/3-12/13

The Colony Theatre Company presents a very special limited engagement, the triumphant return of the 2007 Tony Award Winner for Special Theatrical Event, which was also one of the most popular shows in the Colony Theatre's history, JAY JOHNSON: THE TWO AND ONLY!, directed by Murphy Cross and Paul Kreppel.

Hogan & Holgate Return to HEROES at Merrimack Repertory Theatre, 11/19 - 12/13

After a successful run this past winter with the Keen Company at the Clurman Theater / Theater Row, Jonathan Hogan and Ron Holgate will reprise their roles in Heroes, by Gerald Sibleyras with a translation by Tom Stoppard and directed by Carl Forsman with the Merrimack Repertory Theatre Company. They will be joined by Ken Tigar, who will be playing the role previously performed by Broadway vet John Cullum in the Theater Row premiere. The production at the Merrick Theatre will run from November 19 through December 13.

Last night, December 7, The Mint Theater Company opened its hotly anticipated production of So Help Me God!, toplined by Kristen Johnston and Anna Chlumsky, to critical raves. The Off-Broadway run, which began begin previews on November 18th runs through December 20. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the curtain call and after party!

Melissa James Gibson's THIS Extends Through January 3, 2010

Following critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) has announced a three-week extension for the World Premiere of THIS, the new play by Obie Award winner Melissa James Gibson (Suitcase, [sic]). Directed by Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin ([sic], eight seasons as Artistic Director of Soho Rep), the production opened Wednesday, December 2. Originally set to run through Sunday, December 13, the limited engagement will now play through Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the theater company's Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). This date represents the latest extension possible for the show.

SCR Announces Second Newscripts Reading 12/7

Beau Willimon's Spirit Control, the story of an air traffic controller trying to avert a disaster, will have a staged reading Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. as part of South Coast Repertory's NewSCRipts series. Spirit Control is the 110th play to receive a staged reading in SCR's venerable play reading program.
