Ashley Wheater, Artistic Director of The Joffrey Ballet, and Alexei Kremnev and Anna Reznik, Co-Artistic Directors of the Joffrey Academy of Dance, are pleased to announce the formation of the new Joffrey Studio Company set to begin in the 2014-2015 season. Formalizing this program will enable the Academy to recruit potential students from around the globe and continue to strengthen Joffrey's reputation.

This winter, The Joffrey Ballet revisits its contemporary roots with a mixed repertory program titled "Contemporary Choreographers," an evening of three pieces, two by some of contemporary ballet's most luminous choreographers working today and one by a local "rising star" choreographer. The Joffrey Ballet, led by Artistic Director Ashley Wheater and Executive Director Greg Cameron, announced today that the Company has been awarded a $500,000 challenge grant from the Rudolf Nureyev Dance Foundation expressly to launch an endowment for the creation, production and performance of full-length story ballets. The new Rudolf Nureyev Fund at The Joffrey Ballet, as it will be known, represents one of the largest awarded to a single cultural institution in the Foundation's history, with the Joffrey joining such other high profile organizations as the New York City Ballet, School of American Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and The Joyce Theatre. The Joffrey Ballet will be responsible for raising an additional $1 million to complete the Fund.

Wheater yesterday announced that veteran Chicago arts administrator Greg Cameron, most recently the Chief Operating Officer of WTTW/WFMT, will join the Joffrey leadership team as its new Executive Director, effective July 1, 2013. Kathleen Hechinger, who joined The Joffrey as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrator Officer in 2010 and has served as interim Executive Director since March, has been appointed to the new position of Joffrey Ballet Deputy Director.
