LA Contemporary Dance & BODYTRAFFIC Present Made in L.A. 6/18

The L.A. Glass/Schoenberg Recording Announces Release Date of 6/15

Philip Glass's acclaimed Songs and Poems for solo cello, written for and recorded by Wendy Sutter in 2007, surprised many fans and critics with a new voice for the composer, one imbued with deeply Romantic emotion and Classical tradition. Subsequent works such as Glass's Sonata for Violin and Piano (2009) and Partita for solo violin (2010) have continued this direction. Now a new CD marks the arrival of the Glass Chamber Players, a group of classical virtuosi and chamber musicians whose mission is to perform Glass's chamber works in conjunction with masterpieces of the classical repertoire, putting both in striking new contexts.

Christoph Eschenbach will conduct the New York Philharmonic in a program of music by German and Austrian composers from three centuries: the U.S. Premiere of Matthias Pintscher's towards Osiris, Berg's Violin Concerto with Pinchas Zukerman as soloist, and Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 1, arranged by Schoenberg, Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 20, at 8:00 p.m.

20th-Century Opera Takes Center Stage in New York City Opera's 2010-2011 Season

New York City Opera General Manager and Artistic Director George Steel today announced the company's 2010-2011 season, which spotlights American composers and 20th-century works within a mix of world premieres, New York premieres and new productions. Offering audiences the opportunity to experience new and rarely performed operas as well as modern interpretations of traditional repertoire, the 2010-2011 season will also feature the launch of a concert series showcasing the non-operatic works of several of the composers of this season's operas. Taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the recent renovation of the company's home, the David H. Koch Theater, the concert series expands the repertoire and programming of City Opera and casts new light on the season's productions.

Stage Door Records to Release 1980 Original London Cast Recording of COLETTE, 2/22

Stage Door Records will release of the 1980 Original London Cast Recording of the musical COLETTE by John Dankworth on February 22nd. The release will be the first time the recording has been available on CD. The musical starred Cleo Laine in the title role. The show originally opened at The Stables Theatre, Wavendon in 1979 and transferred to the Comedy Theatre, London in September 1980.
