Downtown Phoenix joins more than 196 global Jazz Day celebrations designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate jazz and the role it plays in uniting people around the world. April 26th kicks off this year's Int'l Jazz Day Weekend at the AZ State Capitol.

Laguna Playhouse is thrilled to announce the fifth show in the Laguna Playhouse 2016-2017 season, a world premiere musical KING OF THE ROAD: THE ROGER MILLER STORY, written by Cort Casady & Mary Arnold Miller, music by Roger Miller, musical direction by Omar D. Brancato and directed by Andrew Barnicle. "We are delighted to be bringing our subscribers and audiences this world premiere musical based on the life of one of country's most iconic characters, Roger Miller," comments Laguna Playhouse Executive Director Ellen Richard. 

ROAR, standing for "Rock On American Resurrection," roared to life Thursday at its opening night at the Crown City Theatre Company in North Hollywood. In contrast to the intimate, quaint setting of a lobby no larger than my living room and a house whose maximum capacity has to be close to 100, ROAR made me (and probably the rest of the audience) feel like I was at a protest concert during the '60s (Act I) and '80s (Act II).

This English On Stage production gives us 70 minutes of some of the world's greatest hits by Adele, Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, Kate Bush (and more) performed by four talented women and two male musicians, but this is more than just a cover show. It is a cabaret-like musical event for women to celebrate themselves through music in a women's empowerment environment.
