Roberta Lane and Elizabeth Landon will join Lyric Opera of Chicago as the chief financial officer and director of human resources, respectively, the company announced today. Lane's role as chief financial officer is a new position and will play a crucial role in developing and analyzing strategic initiatives for the company.

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced casting for the remaining principal roles in its new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel. Lyric Unlimited presents the world premiere of The Property, a klezmer opera by composer Wlad Marhulets and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. It opens Wednesday, February 25, with five performances through Thursday, March 5. Lyric Opera of Chicago today announced several updates to “?Memory and Reckoning,” a confluence of activities related to the Chicago premiere of Mieczys?aw Weinberg's The Passenger, on stage at Lyric February 24 through March 15. This poignant and gripping 20th-century masterpiece portrays the story of the Holocaust from the perspectives of both victim and perpetrator, and was only recently rediscovered after more than 40 years of suppression. “Memory and Reckoning” is a supplemental series of events designed to expand and amplify the themes of this powerful opera.

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today that Jenn Gambatese will portray Carrie Pipperidge in Lyric's new production of Carousel, on stage April 10 through May 3, 2015 (opening night April 11). Gambatese returns to Lyric following her critically acclaimed performance as Maria in last year's production of The Sound of Music, which just won 2014's Best Special Theatrical Event at the Broadway World Chicago Awards. Brian Jagde, one of the outstanding tenors of his generation with a burgeoning international career, will make his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut performing the role of the painter/revolutionary Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini's fiery melodrama ?Tosca Jan. 24-Feb. 5, Lyric's general director Anthony Freud announced today. Jagde replaces the previously announced Ukrainian tenor Misha Didyk, who withdrew from the production for personal reasons.

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today that Laura Osnes will star as Julie Jordan in Lyric's new production of Carousel, on stage April 11 through May 3, 2015. Osnes comes to Lyric following her Tony-nominated role in Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella on Broadway. She joins Steven Pasquale, who stars as Billy Bigelow, in this new production directed and choreographed by legendary Tony, Emmy, and Olivier Award winner Rob Ashford.
Anthony Freud, 55, became general director in October 2011. In addition to directing the company's artistic and business operations, he has begun an in-depth strategic planning process with the Board of Directors, conceived of and launched the Lyric Unlimited initiative, and is forging important new relationships with a variety of other cultural organizations. Freud is the fourth general director in Lyric's 58-year history. Carol Fox, the company's founding general director (1954-80), was succeeded by Ardis Krainik (1981-97), who in turn was succeeded by William Mason (1997-2011). Mason is Lyric's first general director emeritus.
