Playwrights Theatre has partnered with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for prose and poetry readings for the Literary Artist Fellowship Showcases in Long Branch. This is the third set of readings, the first group was presented in October 2013 and the second group was presented in March 2014. All readings will begin at 7:00pm and will take place at New Jersey Repertory Company, 179 Broadway, Long Branch, NJ 07740. Readings are free with a suggested donation of $10. The New Amsterdam Singers, led by music director Clara Longstreth, will present the final concert of its season, called Full Fathom Five: Shakespeare in Song (Composers of Many Lands in Love with the Bard) on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Avenue at 87th Street. The program includes four major choral cycles on Shakespeare texts for a cappella choir by 20th- century composers from England, Switzerland, Finland, and Denmark. Angel City Chorale (ACC) will reunite with acclaimed Composer Christopher Tin at its upcoming spring concerts, Elements, on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Wilshire United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Conducted by ACC Founder and Artistic Director Sue Fink, the first half of the concerts will feature selections that explore the four elements in a variety of musical styles including pop (Earth, Wind & Fire), classical (Brahms), as well as spirituals ("Ain'a That Good News"). The second half of the program features the West Coast Premiere of Tin's new song cycle, The Drop that Contained the Sea, the much-anticipated follow-up to Tin's Grammy Award-winning album, Calling All Dawns, which was hailed by critics as a masterpiece. Tin's new classical/world music fusion work features stunning juxtapositions of rhythms and cultures. Songs depict global visions of water from the snows of Mongolia to the rains of Africa. Each of the 10 pieces is sung in a different language, including Proto-Indo-European, Turkish, and Xhosa. ACC also performed the West Coast premiere of Tin's Calling All Dawns at its 20th Anniversary Concerts last spring.
