BWW Review: SNOW CHILD at Arena Stage - A Magical Delight of a Musical

It is always exciting when you sit in a theater to see the world premiere of a new musical. The Arena Stage's Kreeger Theater was a buzz in anticipation of SNOW CHILD which is a co-production with Alaska's Perseverance Theatre. Why Perseverance? Well, Arena Stage's Artistic Director Molly Smith actually grew up in Alaska, returned there after schooling and founded the Perseverance Theatre in Juneau. She served as Artistic Director there for 19 years before coming to Arena Stage. Four years ago, Smith and Perseverance Artistic Director Art Rotch discussed the idea for an adaptation for SNOW CHILD.

United Solo Announces Its Selections For 9th Season

The world's largest solo theatre festival announced its 2018 selections, which include over 120 productions from all over the world. These productions represent various forms of theatre, dance, and performance art, and will be presented at Theatre Row. The 42nd Street venue has been home for United Solo since 2010. The festival is a resident company at Theatre Row, where it has presented nearly 1,000 productions from six continents over the past eight years.

LIGHT SHINING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE Extends At New York Theatre Workshop

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) (Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Jeremy Blocker) announced today a one-week extension for LIGHT SHINING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, by NYTW Usual Suspect and five-time Obie Award winner Caryl Churchill (Love and Information; A Number) directed by NYTW Usual Suspect, Tony Award nominee, & three-time Obie Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown; Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812). LIGHT SHINING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, NYTW's eighth collaboration with Churchill, began previews on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, and will open Monday, May 7 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003). LIGHT SHINING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, which was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, May 27, will now run through Sunday, June 3, 2018.

Bay Area Playwrights Festival Brings RESISTANCE & REVOLUTION at Potrero Stage

The Playwrights Foundation, a launchpad for exceptional plays and playwrights announces the lineup for the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF) running July 20-29, 2018. The six Playwrights were selected from more than 700 submissions nationally, 85% from outside the bay area, from more than 2 dozen states and Canada - coast to coast a very North American cohort.

Schimmel Center To Present Anna Deavere Smith In Notes From The Field, 6/1 & 6/2

Schimmel Center will present Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Anna Deavere Smith's Obie Award-winning solo performance, Notes From the Field, for one weekend only on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in preparation for a two week run at the Royal Court in London. The production is directed by Leonard Foglia and features original music composed and performed by bassist Marcus Shelby who joins Ms. Smith on stage.

The ABC Television Network announces May sweeps programming, airing through May 23, including series finales of 'Once Upon a Time,' airing May 18; and 'The Middle,' which completes its nine-year run with a special one-hour episode on May 22.

3rd Annual YoungArts Foundation Gala Raises More Than 700k For Emerging Artists

On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts), along with honorary co-chairs Agnes Gund, Naeem Khan and Anna Deavere Smith, and gala co-chairs Sarah Arison, Diana DiMenna and Sandra Tamer, welcomed more than 220 of New York's top cultural and community leaders, philanthropists, celebrities and art aficionados to the third annual YoungArts New York Gala.

MLIMA'S TALE Extends Through June 3

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced today a two-week extension for the world premiere of MLIMA'S TALE. Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, MLIMA'S TALE continues The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR. MLIMA'S TALE will now run two additional weeks through Sunday, June 3.

Mariachi Opera About Divided Immigrant Family Returns To Houston Grand Opera

At a time when our nation is wrestling with tough questions about immigration, Houston Grand Opera is bringing back its bilingual production of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna / To Cross the Face of the Moon, a moving story that chronicles the joys and struggles of three generations of a family divided between countries and cultures through the rich melodies of mariachi. HGO presents three special performances on May 17, 19, and 20 in the HGO Resilience Theater at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Composed by Jose 'Pepe' Martinez with libretto by Leonard Foglia and known as the world's first mariachi opera, Cruzar has been performed to audiences around the world, including in New York City in January 2018. HGO's production will feature the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Los Camperos. Tickets for these productions at the HGO Resilience Theater in the George R. Brown Convention Center are available at HGO.org. Parking is available at the Avenida North Garage located at 1815 Rusk Street, across from Resilience Theater. Annenberg Center Live And NextMove Dance Announce Co-Presenting Partnership

Annenberg Center Live and NextMove Dance have announced a new co-presenting partnership that will consolidate contemporary dance productions under one roof at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Pennsylvania. In the 2018-19 season, Annenberg Center Live and NextMove Dance will present 11 dance ensembles for Philadelphia audiences: Circa, Spectrum Dance Theater, Jessica Lang Dance, Caleb Teicher & Company, Martha Graham Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Dance Heginbotham, Union Tanguera + Kate Weare Company, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers, BODYTRAFFIC, and Parsons Dance.
