Last night, June 14, The Town Hall celebrated the Broadway By The Year® 10th Anniversary Celebration - Broadway By The Year 1990-2010, Created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for the Town Hall, the Broadway performers included Norm Lewis (The Little Mermaid, Sondheim on Sondheim), Karen Mason (Mama Mia!), Astaire Award-winner Spencer Liff (Cry- Baby), Michael Winther (Mama Mia!), Douglas Ladnier (Jekyll & Hyde), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), four-time Tony® Award nominee Gregg Edelmann (Tale of Two Cities), Alexander Gemignani (Les Miserables), Tony® Award winner Debbie Gravitte, Kendrick Jones (The Scottsboro Boys), three-time Tony® Award nominee Mark Kudisch (9 to 5), Tony® Award nominee Bobby Steggert (Ragtime), Julia Murney (Wicked), Max Von Essen (Xanadu national tour), Tony ® Award nominee Barbara Wash (Company) and Lari White (Ring of Fire). Broadway by the Year 1990-2010 was directed by Nightlife Award winner Scott Coulter, who also performed in the show.

TRU Announces TRU Voices New Plays Reading Series 6/14, 6/21

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces the winning selections of the 2010 TRU Voices New Plays Reading Series. In a series that is unique because it develops new producers as well as new plays, three works were chosen from submissions by emerging or established producers, as well as from writers who hoped to be matched with a producer.

Songwriter Amanda Green Returns to Birdland 7/19

Double Crown restaurant's Chef de Cuisine, Christopher Rendell, joins forces with playwrights Theresa Rebeck (Pulitzer Finalist for Omnium Gatherum; Mauritius), Rob Ackerman (the Drama Desk Award-winning Tabletop), and Tony® nominee Douglas Carter Beane (for Xanadu; To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar) to create an original three-course menu inspired by their world premiere plays.

Harada, Tam, et al. Join 'Eating Their Words' Benefit, 6/21

Josh Charles ('The Good Wife,' 'In Treatment'), Ann Harada (AVENUE Q, 9 TO 5), Jason Tam (A CHORUS LINE, LES MISERABLES) and Katie Kreisler (NOISES OFF, OUR HOUSE) will star in 'Eating Their Words' benefit event for The Chase Brock Experience dance company on Monday, June 21st at Double Crown restaurant at 316 Bowery. For this unique evening, Double Crown's Chef de Cuisine, Christopher Rendell, joins forces with playwrights Theresa Rebeck (Pulitzer Finalist for OMNIUM GATHERUM; MAURITIUS), Rob Ackerman (the Drama Desk Award-winning TABLETOP), and Tony® nominee Douglas Carter Beane (for XANADU; THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHTED; screenwriter, 'To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything,' 'Julie Newmar') to create an original three-course menu inspired by their world premiere plays. Produced by Eating Their Words, the unprecedented innovator of events that wed seasoned chefs, award-winning playwrights and notable actors for a synthesis of the performing and culinary arts, the evening's proceeds will support the creation of two premiere dances in The Chase Brock Experience dance company's summer season. The event begins at 7pm in Double Crown restaurant's private dining room. Menu to be announced shortly.

Broadway actors Christine Toy Johnson and Jose Llana, in partnership with The Eastern Region Equal Employment Opportunity Committee of the Actors' Equity Association, held a sold-out, all Asian-American concert performance of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Tony Award-nominated musical 'Once On This Island' at the York Theatre in New York, NY on Sunday, May 16, 2010.

Harada, Llana, et. al Set for 'Once On This Island' Concert, 5/16

A concert version of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Once On This Island will hit the stage on May 16th at 7:30pm at the York Theatre. The concert will be performed in connection with Asian Heritage Month and will be directed by original cast member Gerry McIntyre. Randy Redd will serve as musical director.

In 1999-2000, The New Group presented the premiere of Marc Wolf's solo documentary play, Another American: Asking and Telling, which won an Obie award and went on to tour the country. Ten years later, The New Group revisits this influential piece of theater in the context of the ongoing debate about the U.S. policy on LGBT citizens in the military.

Last night, Monday, May 10, The New Group opened their latest production of The Kid. This marks the final production in The New Group's current 2009-2010 season, which featured Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and most recently, the hit revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind, directed by Ethan Hawke. The Kid plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through May 29 at The New Group @ Theatre Row. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night after party arrivals.
