The world premiere production of 'Venice' opens this Sunday (October 17) at 6:30 p.m. Currently in previews through October 16, the new musical with book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax and lyrics by Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, and additional music by Curtis Moore, is presented by Center Theatre Group at the Kirk Douglas Theatre as a co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre. 'Venice' continues through November 14.

Jefferson Award Nominees Announced

Today, the Jefferson Awards announced the 150 nominations in 35 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions which opened between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008. Beginning with this season, the Jeff Awards is acknowledging the work of Large and Midsize theatres in separate categories for productions and technical elements.

Light Opera Works opened its 2006 season with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic South Pacific. Winner of 9 Tony awards in 1950 including Best Musical, Book and Score, the story is adapted from James A. Michener's Pulitzer Prize-winning, 'Tales of the South Pacific.'
