The sun came out in Thousand Oaks, CA last week as Cabrillo Music Theatre proudly opened its all new production of the hit musical, Annie. ANNIE also marks the return of Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan to the Cabrillo stage, having won a Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for her performance as the Fairy Godmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella last season. Annie opened Friday, October 14th and continues through Sunday, October 23rd, at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks. Broadway World TV's Los Angeles Correspondent/Producer Michael Sterling and Associate Producer Jerry Evans of JLE Media Group Inc., spent a day with Ms. Struthers and the Annie company to talk about the world's beloved musical.

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and La Vie Productions present the new musical THE KID WHO WOULD BE POPE - a musical comedy about first loves, youthful obsession, and the search for miracles - with music, lyrics and book by Tom Megan and Jack Megan, directed by Gabriel Barre ('The Wild Party'), and featuring a cast that includes some of Broadway's biggest, little, stars including: Kyle Brenn ('West Side Story'), Alison Jaye Horowitz ('Mary Poppins,' 'Sunday in the Park with George'), Matthew Gumley ('Elf,' 'Beauty and the Beast'), Leah Greenhaus ('Shrek The Musical'), Rachel Resheff ('The People in the Picture,' 'Billy Elliot'), etc. THE KID WHO WOULD BE POPE is presented as part of the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival and will play at The Theatre at St. Clements (423 West 46th Street) in Manhattan beginning September 26 - with only 6 performances available.

Following six weeks of fierce competition among 20 of California's finest young musical theatre performers, LA's Next Great Stage Star 2011 celebrated Judy Mora's outstanding victory at the 5th annual competition's glittering Finale on Sunday, February 6, presented by Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's, the most critically acclaimed, award-winning supper club of its kind in greater Los Angeles. Runners up included San Francisco's Michael David (2nd place); Matthew McFarland (3rd place); Emily Goglia (4th place); and Reba Buhr (5th place). Broadway World's Dean Butler was there to capture the three and a half hour event ... off and on stage - which also included a Special Guest Star performance by musical theatre, television star and pop composer/singer Blake McIver Ewing.

These two gents are doing a great service to the community in bringing back the art form of radio, which has been slowing fading out for decades.
