At a ceremony held today at London's Cafe de Paris, host Steve Furst announced the nominees for the 17th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards, the only major theatre prize-giving decided entirely by the theatregoers themselves.

The 20th Anniversary production of Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical RENT is the fastest selling show in the history of the St. James Theatre, having sold the most tickets not only in a 24-hour period after on-sale, but also in the first week of an on-sale period. RENT also breaks the record for the most amount of money taken on the first day of sales, beating the theatre's previous fastest selling show record-holders, Sideways and The Pianist of Willesden Lane.
Robert Mackintosh and Idili Theatricals Limited, in association with Theatr Clwyd and Wales Millennium Centre, are presenting the 20thAnniversary production of Jonathan Larson's ground-breaking Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical RENT. After opening at Theatr Clwyd for a limited season from 21 October to 12 November 2016, RENT will go on a three-week tour, prior to a Christmas Season at St. James Theatre, London from 8 December 2016 to 28 January 2017, with a national press night on Tuesday 13 December 2016. 2017 tour dates are to be announced. The new production will be directed by Bruce Guthrie.
Last night, Wednesday 23 March, saw the opening night of the much-anticipated production of Duncan Macmillan's intoxicating new play, PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS, at the Wyndham's Theatre. Transferring to the West End after a sell-out National Theatre run, Duncan Macmillan's PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS opened last night at Wyndham's Theatre. Directed by Jeremy Herrin, the show is a collaboration between the National and Headlong. It's recently extended its run and is now booking to June 18.
Previews begin at the Wyndham's Theatre on Tuesday 15 March, with opening night on Wednesday 23 March, and having recently extended its run, PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS is booking until 18 June 2016. The full cast has been announced for the world stage premiere of John Boyne's highly acclaimed and best-selling international novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas which opens at Chichester Festival Theatre on 19 February, from where it will tour England until 27 June. The book, which is a KS3 level school text for 11 - 14 year olds, has been adapted for the stage by Angus Jackson. The press night is Thursday 26 February at 7 pm.

It will be staged less than 20 miles away at Chichester during the 70th anniversary month of the D-Day landings.
